Saving system families as loadable families

For managing our business and project libraries we would like to have the possibility to save system families such as walls, floors, roofs, ceilings and also ducts, pipes and trays as loadable families. When these system families are available in the family editor we can start to make reusable parametric content. For example a floorplan layout. How much freedom will it give the AEC market if we could save a piece of a building as a part just like it is possible in Inventor, FreeCad or Catia. It will give us the possibility to make fully parametric façade elements, floorplans and modules. Now we have to work with linked files. Each time we want to change something in a Linked file we have to open the file and reload it again. Instances that are slightly different have to be a different linked file. Managing the families within all these linked files is hard. Because it’s not possible to use the same linkend file in multiple forms were only some instance dimensions are changed. A linked file can’t be modified by it’s dimension parameters.

CEO Andrew Anagnost spoke about modularisation of the Nomad Hotel from Marriott on AU Las Vegas this year. From 8:30 is the Marriott topic. To work with modules like Marriott did you need parts:

Saving a family from existing objects would be great. Creating families from scratch, without proper building context, just sucks. We can copy-paste content from existing elements into a new family. Why do we have to use this medieval procedure? Why can't we create families from groups or from assemblies?

I wonder if this post somewhat resonates with the post I created sometime ago. At least the realization and request for self contained building systems inside of Revit.

Allow us to make a model family (.rfa) of category's like roofs, floors, walls...

Such a function would also be very useful for precast/modular construction. There are also many structural restrictions or dependencies that have to be built into the components (e.g. edge zones in which no components or openings may be placed). Unfortunately, the Precast extension does not offer the right solution here!
If we had loadable families for walls, ceilings and other system families, the workflows could be significantly simplified.
