Fire Safety for Revit

SPACES

Revit has Spaces focused on HVAC, and Arquiteture (through Rooms).

Why not creating a Space focused on Fire Safety, by creating something similar to HVAC spaces?

That way you could automaticaly calculate a number of things and report them:

  • number of people occuping the room based on the room area and its utilization, or not
  • number of people occuping the room, and considered exiting the same room
  • risk cathegory of the room based on other parameters (occupancy, age of occupants,...)
  • utilization of the space

You can create this parameters for rooms or spaces and report them through shared parameters, but you can not associate a formula to them.

Adding this specifications to a Room or Space, or creating a new Space type for this analysis would allow a smoother workflow, and maybe bring new people to Revit.

PATH OF TRAVEL IMPROVEMENT

I think this one is hard to program, but I think it would be a great add to the new Path fo Travel tool.

The ideia is to ask Revit the area within a certain distance or time from a point, instead of those parameters between two given points.

This would allow a better analysis of the distances to walk in a building, and the distribution of fire safety equipaments like fire extinguers and hooses.

I agree with what you have mentioned here, while Revit is a great tool, it's not completely made with Fire Safety in mind, (it is getting better with path of travel improvements for each version).

But have you taken a look at bimfiretools.com?

It is a Revit plug-in trying to bridge the gap for fire safety engineers, creating a fire safety model which emulates the workflow that is now done in PDF / AutoCAD which symbols etc. But gives the opportunity to send data from the fire safety model to all other team members in the design phase, (Architect, Structural, MEP) to the correct object (doors, ducts, walls ... ) while even having an audit trail functionality to track changes.

There are a few calculation / "analyze" features as well, as you mention on top, occupant loads etc.

Being late on the ball, 3 years in but never too late.
