Convert The Plan or Section or Detail to 2D Drafting view

I've work on number of Revit Project specially on the Bridge. I knew the live plan, section, details are very good in the 3D design. But we still mixing between 3D and 2D drawing design. In the certain stage of design we need to create the typical section, details or diagram... which don't need to be "live". and specially for the reo drawing.

How about an 'Export to Drafting View'

@chuong.le / @Alan.johnson1970 - I agree that an "Export to Drafting View" option would be extremely helpful. My firm would love to start using live sections more, but are hesitant as we re-use a lot of our details on multiple projects and the ability to import to other projects is only available for drafting views.

@Intuos5 - I don't think that is a duplicate idea. The link that you have is for drafting/annotating over 3D views, and this idea is for exporting section cuts/plans/elevations/detail views into 2D drafting views. Both would be useful in their own right.

Has anyone found a add-in that can do this?

5 years on, and there's still no feature or addins for this. We would love to have this feature built-in Revit or thru a plugin or dynamo script. The current solution we do is to export the live view to DWG, import it back to Revit drafting view, explode it, and change all lines to company standard linestyles, then redo all dimensions. Then there's a bonus task of purging those imported non-standard dwg linestyles and linetypes.

It is amazing this is still not possible to do in going on 2025, not even with an addin? I get that Revit wants to emphasize live sections but sometimes we just need detail views; especially for bringing typical details from one project to another. The lack of this functionality makes us want to use live sections and details less often because they are not reusable on other projects without too much effort.

I was able to accomplish this by exporting a dwg file of whatever view, (I used a partial floorplan call out) and then imported it to a detail family, I had to do quite a bit of cleaning to make this file user friendly and in the future would probably open it in cad and use the 'overkill' command to expedite the cleaning process. I don't know that it will work for everything but it is helping with converting manufacturers detailed Revit families to detail drafting views in the project file (much better than tracing sections, in my opinion). There really should be a better way to do this... but there is a work around in 2025!
