Archicad has also been around since 1987.   Autocad was released in 82.   Revit was released in 2000 by the Revit Technology Corp....when Autodesk bought it in 2002 you figure ArchiCAD had been around for 15 years and most of us ArchiCAD users were only familiar with Autodesk Architectural Desktop as the competition. (Now Autocad Architecture...Graphisoft sales people were right that Arch Desktop was going away, it changed names).

So yeah, Archicad/Graphisoft got off it's butt with Revit being taken over by Autodesk and started to make dramatic improvements.    I was stoked when Plotmaker went away.  Then Teamwork was introduced along with Teamwork Server...had to compete with this new Revit program right?  Also before Revit came along Archicad would have point releases each year with full releases maybe every 2-3 years.  When Revit released a new full release each year guess who else started to do the same?

I'm glad Archicad has gotten some huge improvements over the years...but there are still features in Revit that I would prefer over Archicad and vise versa.  But also I don't hang out at the Architalk forum pointing out Archicad deficiencies that Revit has.  Give it time with Revit updates, we recently got the ability to create stairs with components vs sketch only.
