Allow worksets to be scheduled

Will allow each discipline to backcheck elements placed on the wrong workset.

Some of the model categories are being excluded from a multi-Category Schedule .
What’s missing are the system families such as Walls, Floors, etc.

On the other hand, a multi-Category Material Takeoff does contain materials of system families.

It's confusing and illogical.

It would be great to have the possibility to create a schedule with a filter by worksets. So you should be able to add the field 'Workset' in a schedule.

Explorer
Explorer

Allow the creation of schedules which can include all object category's including system family's.

currently system family's can't be included in multi category schedules.

This means model data checks on generic parameters need multiple schedules.

Opening this would intheory also allow more powerful relation scheduling.

For example door-wall, fitting wall. All objects relating to a space etcetera.

The Multi Category Schedules only show Component Families and a few MEP System Families. If System Families was included it would give a Holistic view of the model.

Totally agree.

We use the worksets very active in our use of Revit, eg. to save expired elements out of sight (but available).

E.g. in a project we recently made a lot of beams with 3D reinforcement before the client decided to change everything. We wanted to save these beams in case he changed his mind back again later. Therefor we put them in the workset called "expired".

But this gave us problems in schedules. Therefore it should be available as a filteroption.

Agreed. "Multi" should be all categories, not limited to non-system families.

You can visually distinguish model worksets by using worksharing display settings, kindly check the following link

Agree, we usually use workset to sort out disciplines, duct, pipe sprinkler in our MEP models. so sorting out all objects in a specific workset in a schedule would be very helpful.

A visual check might be good but, making a schedule and have the ability to filter by workset can be effective in so many ways.

Agree. We need it desperately on our Projects.

same idea as https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/allow-worksets-to-be-scheduled/idi-p/6561759

This would help us trying to clean up the mess of families and types with " 1" and " 2" suffixes (created when views are inserted with different family versions - see Add option to select which type to use when inserting duplicate type). We would be able to schedule Detail Components, etc. with the Worksets field to see what views they're in (so they can be cleaned up).

Anonymous

We need this so we can export a single schedule to do our estimation. Revit says it includes everything, but sneakily excludes Walls, Floors, Roof, Ceilings, Stairs and Railings.

I really don't like how it gives the impression that everything is included, but it's not. If you're going to be weird and inconsistent, at least be clear about it.

Anonymous

Speaking of which, annotations are not included or scheduled, but I would like to schedule annotations, so I can track our of standards in a smart BIM manner with automated schedules.

And allow us to select which categories are to be in the multi-category schedule. Provide more control than 'all-or-nothing'.

Have Autodesk anything to add here as there seems to be a demand?

what is the status on this idear?

this is a very important one !

Same here. Very useful feature to have.

Hello forum moderators. Please merge votes given to this idea , this idea  and this idea with the votes given to the idea posted by @Ewoud_Ruifrok  (which has the most votes among the four). All the ideas are the same and there is no reason to scatter the votes. I'm sure its possible to avoid "double-votes" in that merge process.

I agree! It would be very useful.

This would be a great addition.

I have found a workaround so thought I would share.

1) Open a Schedule and a 3D view side by side.

2) Select the elements in the schedule

3) Click in a blank space on 3D view to activate it.

4) You can now use the Filter command if needed to isolate further or else you can change the workset on the properties pallet.

I've used this for changing worksets for several items (rooms and groups so far) but in theory it should work for all elements that can be scheduled.

This may work with other views I just typically do it using a 3D view so I can see elements selected on different levels.

as workset.jpg

I use the value of [extensions.parameters] for manipulate on worksets

[extensions.parameters]

1000                                    filters 1000-1999 from workset X

2000                                    filters 2000-2999 from workset Y

etc.

Scheduling on workset seems one of the most logical things Revit should do.

Reporting this story in 2019..! Put it from the wishlist to the needlist people !

Would also allow me to make a Note Block for graphic scales, and ensure that every sheet had them (and had the right ones).

Hello , I dont know if this will work as a workaround, but when you made a material takeoff, the items that dont appear on a schedule show. Its not great for putting parameters into it, but we work that way.

Although I think its necessary that a Multi-Category Schedule could show every item.

It would make the work much easier If we can have workset in schedules.

It was 4 years ago. Have to conclude it is not being heard.

Someone in 2008 was already requesting this feature and here we are, 12 years later and nothing has happened. I now need to create weird workarounds to be able to create separate schedules for elements in different worksets. Ridiculous.

This feature will encourage using worksets as layers, which is not a BIM savvy strategy.

We should not need to place model elements onto specific worksets, ever.

90% of the time a team members tell me we need to place some elements on a custom workset I can find a better way to manage those elements, by using categories (and sub), Phases, Options, Links, etc.

Advocate

Great, I'm guessing in the remaining 10% you use worksets as layers because it's simply the most efficient way forward in the project?

Shouldn't the software give us the option and let us decide the best way for each one of us depending on our specific requirements?

Collaborator

Limits to your software and making thing not possible is not the best way
to enforce somekind of 'bim vision'. there reallys i nothing wrong with the
concept of having worksets. Just make the work better

The Factory? What's that all about?

Enthusiast

Yes, please Autodesk. Give us access to ALL of the data and let the users decide what we need and don't need in a schedule. It's crazy that there is all of this hidden metadata that Revit shields from its users. It is our data, let us use it as we see fit.

please make it possible to transfer the workset with "transfer project standard"

@hanslammerts  To answer your question about "The Factory", it is referring to the Revit development "factory". Participants in our Preview Release (beta) program are invited to attend "Inside the Factory" sessions and work alongside our teams testing features in development. Hope that helps! Let me know if you would like more information on how to become involved!

I see now. 'Inside the factory' indeed was the respons to the open letter and disappointed users. Still, as Autodesk is bigger than Revit BIM the factory should be more than a marketing reaction for just one of the products. Still waiting for a idea station for AutoCAD. Do consider a 'factory approach' as well.

Thank you, @hanslammerts , actually ITF events have been going on for a very long time (I did my first in 2015). Before that they were called "Revit Gunslinger" events. We certainly appreciate all of the feedback that we get, both positive and negative, and are working to make Revit better all around.

For AutoCAD, the AUGI Wish List is still active and is accessible by the Autodesk teams as well. But I will certainly pass along your request!

Give it a name. At least Revit has more engagement with its users. AutoCAD, that other factory product has zero. Last time i checked that Augi AutoCAD 'wish' list has a obscure payed membership to pass over A WISH to the factory.  Augi stands 100%
full away from Autodesk itself. What wishes we're implemented? What i'm saying AutoCAD doesn't have any normal feedback channel. Pass that through. Doubt it will change anything.

@hanslammertsI believe "The Factory" is what the original Revit users called the developers even before Autodesk bought them... Also, though there are also paid membership tiers, AUGI basic membership is free, including posting & annual wishlist voting.

How is this implemented?  How do you create a workset schedule? Just saw it came out in version 2022.  Nice feature to have!
