In place Mass and Lighting

I'm a Lighting Consultant, as opposed to Architect or MEP. Aside from other issues that exist (there are quite a few), the limitations of In-Place Masses is a significant one.

Normally, when creating a light the is flexible (example product is attatched), an In-Place model is created (measuring this is very problematic as well as it essentially needs to be done by hand), which allows for the Family Category of "Lighting".

However, I am currently trying to insert lighting installed in a spiral staircase's railing. This light fixture sprials in three dimensions, so only an In-Place Mass can be used which does not allow for the lighting category. As such, I am have to use significant amounts of my time "cheating" to allow for the fixtures to exist at all (I'm using semicircles of lighting, rotated at 45deg, with overriden parameters so it schedules correctly)

Other problems exist with having to use the systems, but the limitations regarding having to use In-Place Mass to model a lighting fixture is making a number of the things I'm being expected to do impossible.

My current request for a feature is simple - please make it possible for In-Place Mass the option to have the Family Category of Lighting Fixtures. Additionally, allow for Parameters from the individual disciplines to be used (for example, the built in parameter wattage)

There are a .... significant number of issues surrounding speciality lighting design within Revit, a full discussion of these would be very helpful.

Another option would be to use the basis of railings as a lighting tool.  This would make it possible to sketch the path and control easily the way in which flexible linear products are used.  It would also make scheduling perimeters like length a lot easier!

Even just being able to make a railing a lighting fixture would be a helpful quick workaround.
