Link 3D objects and Schedules to 2D symbols

We'd like to see the ability to have 2D symbols in Drafting Views (such as electrical or piping schematics) include parameters linked to their 3D components in the model. This would come in handy with electrical schematics, piping P&IDs, etc. We currently model everything in the 3D model and make a schedule from that and that is great. But the schematics would be so much better and easier if we could place a 2D component in a drafting view and link it to the 3D component it represents. This way, the schematic, model, and schedule would ALL update when one component is updated from any of the 3 sources. Currently there is still room for error because the 2D schematic has to be updated separately from the 3D model.

What might help you is visibility graphics overrides, if set up correctly in plan can a symbol, while in section you have a view of 3D model, or set it it that on coarse you see symbols while on medium see 3D model outline, and on fine all the nuts and bolts as an example.

clicking on a object in the family editor will show then bring up the option to specify a VG override, in the properties menu. When you click it you should the see the window just below in my screenshot. Hope that helps
