Yeah, I know it's not that easy, but I am happy to hear you say "yet". For Structural software that already know the volume per foot, and the length of every member in the model, it should not take a month for a decent programmer to consolidate all of that information and have the code compiled to run at a single click. I would certainly agree that is would be more complex for joists (which are dynamically generated multi-family assemblies) which have different individual element thicknesses depending on the load design, but even that information should already there, because I assume that Revit uses the existing/resident L-angle families to generate a joist.
I know that there are lengthly work arounds, but that's why I put it in "Ideas". Because it SHOULD be one click. You just haven't written the code yet.
