export multiple sheets into one dwg

Now, when exporting from Revit to DWG, each sheet is exported as separate file, therefore, if you want one single DWG with all drawings and sheets, it has to be combined manually or by importing each layout in CAD.

It would be great if Revit can export multple sheets into one single DWG CAD, with all drawings in the model tab and sheets in the layout tabs.

I'm not sure that's a great idea for big projects. Lots of CAD elements in the same dwg will load very very slow. The same goes for many layouts in the same dwg. It would require very powerful hardware, especially for graphics. Instead, create a master dwg file containing xrefs to all other dwgs. You can arrange xrefs in any order you want, scale them , crop them, overlap them ,etc. Combine them every way you want. Much easier to handle the content for visual purposes, plus no danger of accidentally editing individual items.

There's additional problems of putting everything into one DWG file - you can only put one user on it at a time, and if the file is corrupted *all* of the drawings/sheets are done instead of just the one.

Given the ease of opening/switching between multiple files in DWG handling applications, plus a host of other options (ZIPping multiple files together, multi-sheet PDFs, LISP/dotNET customization for auto-assembly, etc.) I can't see much benefit of doing this on the Revit side.

Would be great generate an exportation combining all  sheets from revit to a single dwg file

Combining hundreds of sheets into a single dwg file? Autocad will never handle such load in a decent manner.

Combining some/any (NOT all!) sheets into a single dwg file would be great.

Some clients need to have one dwg at the end of a ptoject. If you work in revit, you dont need the cad files to work on them. The clients restriction with cad files dictate our practice because they do not want 12 cad files at the end or a revit file. They need one cad file.

We have a huge number of clients and work with many stakeholders.  All our BIM projects we work on at some point we need to export to dwg.  Before BIM the traditional way was to have one model with multiple layouts.   We need an export function that from Revit can export sheets of our choice into one dwg that has that all the plans in the modelspace with a corresponding sheet viewport in paperspace layouts that appear exactly the same as the sheets in Revit.   The option of export the sheets in DWF/DWFx from Revit is not acceptable to all our clients.

I agree to you Lpn.Jason.

For example right now I'm working on a building that is divided in 5 parts and 3 floors.

I therefore have a minimum of 6 drawings for each floor (overview + details on the 5 parts).

Revit will therefore create 18 individual DWGs.

I need a maximum of 3 DWGs because there are 3 levels, if not even better: only one DWG with all the floors in the same file.

Now, for each update i have to manually modify the DWGs. Including revision status, the date and so on :cara_de_decepción:

There should be an export option which would allow us to combine multiple sheets in one DWG.

When exported each sheet should have its layers combined under a category that contain the sheets name. This is for ease in turning on or off the visibility of the whole sheet by others that work solely in CAD. Plus each DWG should have all the Layouts already set as per the sheets view in Revit.

Example

Floor 1 - Overview

--- layer 1

--- layer ...

--- layer xx

Floor 1 - Part 1

--- layer 1

--- layer ...

--- layer xx

Floor 1 - Part 2

--- layer 1

--- layer ...

--- layer xx

Floor 2 - Overview

--- layer 1

--- layer ...

--- layer xx

Floor 2 - Part 1

--- layer 1

--- layer ...

--- layer xx

Floor 2 - Part 2

--- layer 1

--- layer ...

--- layer xx

Users should be able to export multiple Revit Sheets to one dwg file both in paper space and also model space. so when you open the dwg file, you can see all the Revit sheets in model space or paper space.

That is very much needed. I actually expected Revit to be able to do this simple task after all these years of development :cara_del_revés:

Hi everyone

Is there anyway that we can do this right now ? (without plugins)

Hi @peticid, hope you are doing well.

I was curious to know what's the status with this Idea. It can actually save a lot of time when clients want one dwg file.

Thanks.

Hi Farzan,

Thank you for your constant support and feedback around this idea. We are still gathering feedback here. Our platform teams are constantly monitoring the activity, to determine which features should be prioritized against others.

Kind regards,

@peticid

Thank you peticid, It's my pleasure to be helpful for AEC industry.

Okay, so I'll keep waiting and hoping for this great idea to come to reality very soon, because our clients want only one dwg file for all the details.

Thanks.

Farzanbayat74, This fixture on Revit will very helpfully when time consuming means.

I'll waiting to for this option.

What is the status of this feature? It would be very helpful.

Unfortunately from what I've seen, average time to implement a feature that lot of people find very important is about 6-8 years. It's unacceptable in my opinion. Inertia of an iceberg.

I am working on a track alignment BIM model up to the as-built stage. At LOD 350, we need to prepare Construction Record Drawings (CRD). Since the track extends for several kilometers, it is not feasible to display the entire alignment in a single view. To address this, we create callout or multiple views and place them on sheets. However, when exporting from Revit to CAD, each view appears in the model space with different coordinate points. This variation makes it difficult for the survey team to accurately measure coordinates, as they change across multiple views.
