Improve model upgrade

Currently, most of my relatively small/middle models can take up to 3 hours to upgrade, and that with a new fast PC.

Moreover, I receive many errors, starting with the "there is a circular chain..." that only gives the option to delete...really? DELETE part of a project model to be able to use a newer version of the software? And no even knowing what you deleted because the ID of course no longer exists when is finally opened.

Also, once upgraded, the model is a bit modified, for example the 3D cutbacks adjusted with "Change Reference" (see other Idea: https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/revit-ideas/framing-3d-cutback-default-options/idi-p/7891288) were reset back, so I have to redo everything.

I understand the philosophy behind the upgrade and compatibility (I think) but, if this is something that we have to do, for every single model, every year, it would be a huge help if this could be faster and cleaner.

Can't say I've ever experienced model upgrade problems anything like this. I recommend removing this from the ideas area and posting it in the forum. Creating posts like this make it harder for good ideas to gain support.

I agree with @Anonymous I don't think this is a general Revit problem. We have project around 1 GB large and they don't take that much time to upgrade, nor do they give many errors.

Though I must say opening older families in R2018 often gives several warnings related to referenaces and dimensions, oddly the family doesn't "break" and still works.

@cuen.saul Before upgrading the project, open it with audit in their current Revit version, purge the file and Save As, this will lower the file size. Then upgrade the project.

I share some of @cuen.saul  concerns. Below is an example of upgrading a 2021 model to a 2022 model. I don't understand why (a) revit can't show me what is being deleted and (b) why would dimensions need to be deleted just due to a minor upgrade from 2021 to 2022.  I can tolerate the slow process of upgrading, but I do think there needs to be an improvement on showing us what the elements are that are being deleted.
