Sorry Yien Chao for the late response, I was out of town enjoying my vacation! and thank you for your comment.
I believe I understand how parameter types work. What I am suggesting to Autodesk is to make parameter types more user-friendly. Currently, shared and project parameters have separate menus, and to create/manage these there are a LOT of clicks involved. Im my opinion, it needs to be simplified. In Revit (I use 2017 version), the differences between parameter types are minimal, and if these are ironed out it could just be a checkbox to switch from shared to project parameter. Modifying a .txt file should not be a problem.
Moreover, to simplify Parameter Management Autodesk could do things such as:
- more visual menus. Maybe even different visualizations (tree-structure, color coding...whatever helps)
- Simplify changing parameters' attributes. Allow drag and drop style (allowing multiple selection). A lot of parameters make no changes on the model but changing these is just as cumbersome as changing geometry parameters (changing parameters that involve text or numbers should be a lot easier/faster)
- Help the user organize parameters. Help the user homogenize parameters across multiple families, find and fix duplicate parameters, naming aids, etc. Improve edit and transfer of parameters attributes to families loaded.
Like any BIM software, Revit's objective is to improve project management, drafting, and coordination. However, Revit is very old-fashioned and slow in terms of internal management of the model and its parameters. It just needs to be better at its primary objective as a software.
