Welcome to the Revit Ideas Board! Before posting, please read the helpful tips here. Thank you for your Ideas!

Change revision on multiple sheets

Another basic functionality to the revisions on sheets could be added - the 'Revisions on Sheets Button' should not disappear when selecting multiple sheets so we could change the revisions on multiple sheets with two clicks  instead like now have to click  each sheet individually and change revision.

(Copying a smal revision cloud is something we dont really like in case someone suggests that or dynamo)

Idea was mentioned already somewhere in the comments section so credit goes to:

-Multiple selection of sheets to change revisions with "Revisions on sheet" button.

Currently, there is no way other than going to each sheet manually to add a revision to it. We should get the option to select multiple sheets, and set revisions to multiple at once. We currently have an Audio Visual job that consists of over 90 sheets, and it becomes very tiresome and inconvenient to have to go to each sheet and manually add a revision to it every time changes are made.

The ability to Shift+Select multiple sheets and set the revision this way would be priceless and a huge time saver. Currently the only way to do so is through a paid, 3rd party application. I believe it should just be built into revit.

When you have hundreds of sheet you dont want to do it manually.
Yes there is Dynamo or other addons, but Revisions management on sheet should be a priority.

YES PLEASE!

We use Xrev Transmit to do this, cheap and effective.

We can also print multiple PDFs in batches as well as use multiple Shared Parameters to name the PDF file.

The whole revision system in Revit needs an update, it is far too simple. BS1192 filenames are required for UK BIM lvl 2 standard projects.

It would be awesome if you could add a new revision to multiple sheets in a much easier way.

Right now, one must click on each individual sheet and "Add to revision schedule".

It would be nice if you could  either do the same action from a bulk selection of sheets or in the revision management panel, there was an option to add a new revision to a selectable list of sheets. Or both.

Thanks!

I used RTVPro for this.

Please make these parameters schedulable so we can manually adjust them in a schedule!!!

Also, when a revision is issued it would be usefull to not be able to remove it from a sheet since it is send for coordination or bidding.

FYI, another option is the Project Setup tool (Manage Sheets tab) that allows you to set or unset these values for all selected or filtered sheets.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OecZ-h6rQhw

Users should be able to highlight multiple sheets in the Project Browser and Edit Revisions for those sheets all at once, rather than manually clicking through each one.

Oops! Thanks @lionel.kai for correcting!

Revision + Cloud Manager available in the Autodesk App store. $15.00, but has saved our firm thousands. Does much more than just let you add revisions to multiple sheets at one time.

This function would be brilliant if it could be done via the Sheet Schedule, where users have already a visual list of Revisions next to each sheet name/no.

This is something that should've been changed a long time ago. Select multiple sheets and allow for revisions to be applied to all of those sheets. If you have a large package of drawings and have to applies a revision to all of them its super repetitive to have to do this for each sheet.

Anonymous

would you please add an example? what do you mean revisions?

Anonymous

An example would be if for example if I had shop release and it was 70 pages. I need to issue this shop release for construction. Each sheet will need to have this in the revision schedule on their respective sheet. With Revit's current work flow I need to go to each of the 50 sheet go to "Revisions on Sheet" in the Properties Palette, click edit and then click the check mark to add the revision to that schedule. You can see how repetitive and time consuming this is. Would make more sense to be able select all sheets of that shop release, click edit and add the Revision to all sheets in one click.

why you don't add revision number to your sheet's family? like designer or address which are parameters and they could be manage by family. for example at this family If i change project name, it will change at all sheets and it is one time work.Untitled.png

Anonymous

I don't think you're understanding the issue I'm presenting here. I understand that you can modify a sheet family but I am trying to reference information in a project so I don't have to edit a family. I think that was the point in Revit having the Revisions added to the software. It seems like an unnecessary work around for something that should be easy to do.

Above is the tool I am referring too.

Xrev Uprev is a free add-in that does what you are asking. I use it to apply a revision to a selection or all sheets once the revision has been made.

Yeah. A typical example of multiple selections. There are many areas in Revit that could improve by allowing multiple selection/edits

I successfully use the Up Rev add-in by Xrev Freebies as well

Yes please. We currently create a cloud on one sheet, and copy and paste it to multiple other sheets, as that's currently the fastest solution.

Anonymous

The thing is though we shouldn't need to download an API for this... should as simple as selecting drawings and then clicking the revisions you want.

This is one of those items where every few months I find myself having to deal with it, I forget that I've already found and voted on the Idea, and I come search for it again. I've visited this page several times in the last few years. I'm glad it's 'Under Review', but that's been over two years. Hoping for movement on this soon.

uprev adds revisions to multiple sheets quickly and it's free, been using it for years-

I'm using revit 2019 and can only assign one sheet per revision. It would be good to see revit allowing us to assign a revision on multiple sheets by selecting sheets from project browser & click edit button (Revision on Sheet) from the properties palette.

Are you aware of the method using Revision clouds?

Contributor

I'm interested to know if you don't mind.

  1. Set your revision up in the Revision Dialog, leave it with 'Cloud and Tag' on.
  2. Go to any sheet you would like to apply this particular revision to.
  3. Drawing a revision cloud of any shape (we are going to turn the revision cloud off at the end so it really doesn't matter what this cloud looks like or how big it is).
  4. Once the cloud (with the correct revision) has been drawn and finished, copy it to your clipboard.
  5. Then use the 'Paste to Selected Views' command (we have ours on a keyboard shortcut for ease (PV)) and choose the other sheets you want to the revision to be applied to. Use Ctrl to select multiple (you can also hold-click and drag).
  6. Hit Ok
  7. Go back to your revision dialog and set the 'Cloud and Tag' to 'None.'

The cloud still on the project (only turned off) which is I'm not happy with but it works as a workaround (appreciate & thanks for sharing).

I still believe my suggestion still outweigh this due to number of steps involve and cons above.

Advocate

I totally agree that this is a workaround and that your idea has merit. Now you have a way of doing it while we wait for Autodesk to (probably) never add this feature.

Can you explain why you are not happy to have the cloud "in the project?"

Anonymous

This actually used to work once upon a time.  For some people the "Revisions on Sheet" would still show up when multiple sheets were selected.  There were theories it was a graphics card issue or all windows on one monitor or just something was installed that allowed it.

Anonymous

I use Revisions to demonstrate the state of the project internally within our organization and would love to have the ability to select multiple sheets from the Project Browser to enable the Revisions rather than sheet by sheet!

Our internal usage doesn't have Rev Clouds, so using the automatic rev cloud method would not work for us.

Observer
Observer

Anyone know if this has been fixed?

The only workaround we have found is to create a very small cloud in the corner of the sheet (typically on the binding edge), and then copy/paste to selected views. It's not ideal to have a little speck in the corner of each sheet, but it's the only thing we know that is really quick and works. Added bonus is if it's not an actual revision, you can then hide the cloud once the revision is added to the sheet, i.e. issue for permit, construction, etc.

Nice, this is a 'paper cut' issue that has always annoyed me!

How will it handle when you select multiple sheets, and one sheet has the Revision added through a revision cloud (so it cannot be unchecked in the dialog) but the others aren't (so they CAN be unchecked in the dialog)?
