Swarf Toolpath will not post

Hello all,

I am trying to use my 4th axis to mill a helix profile onto a piece of S7 tool steel. However, I am unable to get the swarf tool path to post using the Fanuc A-axis post processor. My X axis is the axis of rotation and I think I have the orientation set up properly so I am unsure of what the issue may be. I appreciate it if anyone could help me with this. I should note that I am using Solidworks 2019 with HSM.

Thank you!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Thanks for raising your query onto Autodesk forum.

If I am understanding you correctly you are unable to output the G-code from the Post Fanuc (Inverse time and A xis) available onto HSM Post library here? If yes, please can you let us know or supply the image showing the error you are getting after Post processing the Swarf toolpath?

Thanks for your time and co-operation.

Regards,

Yes, that is correct. I am using the post downloaded from that location. Here is a picture of the error message.

I'm not sure you can do a SWARF cut with only 4th axis? You can unwrap a contour and get a close outcome. SWARF needs 5 axis to follow the face/contour correctly?

I was able to post with the FANUC 4th axis post an unwrapped contour but it wont do the SWARF one. I changed my the setup and duplicated the paths and used my HAAS UMC post and they both work OK (see attached file)

Hope this helps, I'm still learning this software.

@Anonymous ,

Thanks for supplying the image and confirming the Post Processor you are using. My understanding is for Swarf toolpath we will need to use a 5 axis Post process to output it. I tried creating a Counter toolpath with wrap function to get the toolpath you required and this toolpath can be output with the 4 axis Fanuc Post processor. Please have a look at the toolpath '2D Contour1' in attached project.

I hope this helps.

Thank you both for your help. You are correct in that I can not use swarf as a 4th axis path. I see how you created the wrapped tool path and it posts just like you said. This is exactly what I needed.

Thanks again!
