Inventor CAM 2026 - Stock from model orientation

Hi All.

 

This question is about the orientation of the stock in Inventor CAM 2026 setup. I have modelled a simple rectangular stock model and I am selecting that when asked in the CAM setup. The issue is that in the real life machining setup, I am setting up that stock model at an angle to the CNC bed surface. The z axis of tool should coincide with the z axis of my setup and the tool will come down at some angle to the stock. I have attached pictures for references. Now why does Inventor CAM software creates a imaginary 2nd stock model as outlined in reference pictures. This defeats the purpose of selecting the stock from model. 

 

The effects of this behavior are then reflected in the pocketing operation I am selecting. Since CAM software creates that imaginary stock it creates tool path which is cutting material from that imaginary stock it just created. However my stock is mounted at an angle there are large areas where there is nothing to mill. So there is lots of air milling/cutting which is non ideal.

 

Is there any remedy to this? TIA.

Hi

Create a new solid body and select it as Stock in the machining Set.

Thank for reply. I am indeed selecting a solid body as stock in the setup. I am sorry I am not sure if I understood you properly.

The stock model must be oriented relative to the target model exactly as it will be in the real world.

The Z axis should also be set in the direction expected in real machining.

I believe that is what I have done. I am attaching more pictures for clarity. Can you point if there is something wrong I am doing in my setup. In my setup, the vice is sitting on CNC bed, the stock is modelled and placed at an angle in the vice and the tool orientation is vertical to the CNC bed and the vice. The whole thing is setup exactly as real life scenario. But an imaginary stock is shown the picture "7.jpg". The modelled stock's dimensions does not match with what is displayed in the stock dimensions field.
