HSM not showing in add-ins list & No Cam tab

I am having trouble installing HSM 2018 (ultimate).

The install ran fine but the CAM tab does not show up in Inventor Pro 2018.

It doesn't appear in the add-ins manager on the tools tab.

I read in the knowledge base that if HSM does not appear in the add-ins list it is "a bad install".

 

I have tried:

 

- updating Inventor to the latest version (2018.1 I believe) which required uninstalling and reinstalling Autodesk Desktop App.

- uninstalling and reinstalling HSM with the Windows (10) control panel

 

 

- I verified that the HSM files including InventorHSMAddin.dll are located at: c:/Program Files/Autodesk/Inventor HSM 2018/

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @frugal,

 

Maybe the installation Artis damaged. 

How and where did you download the HSM software?

 

Suggestion:

- Go to your manage.autodesk.com account

- Choose for a browser download of the Inventor HSM software (No Download Manager) (I have seen problems by using the Download Manager)

- Do a clean uninstall of the already installed HSM software. 

- Reinstall the HSM software. 

 

Use a full Administrator Windows account during installation. 

Yesterday I hat also a customer with installation problems. 

He wasn’t using a full admin account. 

After using a full admin account everything was working fine.

Hi Marco,

 

Thank you for the reply.

 

The installer was downloaded from the the education section of the autodesk site using the "Install Now" option. I have been using an admin account.

 

By "clean uninstall" are you referring to the Windows Control Panel or is there an Autodesk uninstaller that I should be using?

 

At my manage.autodesk.com page, the "Inventor HSM - Ultimate" versions stop at 2017. Now there is a listing for a separate product called "HSM Ultimate". However, the download package is called "INV_HSM_2018..." Do you know if this just a product name change or do I have the wrong installer?

1. Try also the Browser Download from your account (Image is not taken from a HSM product)

2. Clean uninstall -> https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/download-install/remove-products/clean-uninstall

 

3. I don't know how your account looks like. It is possible that you have an HSM Ultimate in your account.

    Because of the changes in August now it is also possible that you have a Product Design & Manufacturing Collection that also included the HSM

    product. If this info doesn't help you it is maybe better to contact your reseller.

Hi Marko,

 

Thanks again for the response.

 

1. I tried the HSM web install with the same result. The installation completes without any problem, but HSM is not added to the Inventor Install.

 

2. Thanks for this link, that is helpful. I will try this next as I suspect this has something to do with licensing files - see item 4 below.

 

3. I do not have the collection, I have been installing Inventor as a stand alone and then adding HSM. My question was just whether there is a difference in the products called "HSM Ultimate" and "Inventor HSM Ultimate" as they are two separate items in the Products list. 

 

4. I also tested the previous install which is on the same machine - Inventor Pro 2017 and Inventor HSM Ultimate 2017. This was working before but was now broken - the add-in was not recognized by the manager when I launched Inventor and would not load. I reinstalled HSM 2017 with browser download and this time was asked for license information on launch. After completing the sign in, HSM showed up in the tabs. I have therefore decided to reinstall Inventor 2018 and then HSM in the hope that it too asks for licensing... Will post the results when that (long) process is finished.

Success!

 

There was some kind of issue, perhaps to do with a bad license file or conflict between HSM 2017 and HSM 2018. Uninstalling Inventor and then reinstalling both it and HSM caused them to reset the activations and ask for serial numbers. Now all is good.

 

A mere two days to resolve this one.

 

Thank you for your help Marko, you provided the necessary clue.

I'm having this same problem. Did you uninstall Inventor 2018 and 2017 before getting it to work? I assume that 2018 won't work when 2017 is still installed. We want to be sure before we remove it all. Thanks in advance.

Hi -

 

2017 and 2018 of Inventor HSM cannot be installed together. Inventor HSM 2018 can work with simultaneously installed Inventor 2017 and 2018, however.

Interesting. I have HSM 2017 and HSM 2018 installed on the machine that I just fixed. I guess I should remove it.

I did notice that Inventor 2017 recognized HSM 2018 when I launched it (before re-installing Inventor 2018). 

Perhaps this was the source of the original problem.

As I was unaware that concurrent installs of HSM 2018 and 2017 is not suggested, I uninstalled only HSM 2018 and Inventor 2018, before reinstalling them - Inventor first, then HSM.

Thanks all. I uninstalled everything (2017 & 2018 Inventor and HSM). Installed 2018 Inventor HSM and everything worked perfectly.

I have the same problem.

 

New system here with Windows 10

 

Installed the latest Inventor Pro 2018

Installed HSM Express 2018 (ultimate license comes in 8 days)

 

InventorHSM does not show up in the Add-Ins manager.

 

Tried unistalling, rebooting, reinstalling, nothing seems to work.

 

Anyone know a fix from this apart from a complete clean install and hoping it works for no apparent reason when you're doing the exact same thing the second time.

 

What frustrates me is that you cannot point the Add-In manager to a location yourself.
