Grid Milling

Hi to everyone,

with which function in HSM is it possible to mill that grid on top of the plate?

The slots are 4mm each and the milling tool is 4mm as well.

So my plan is to mill the smal slots in each direction (y and x)

like one big slot (with slotting operation) from one side to another.

But that doesnt work because HSM cant find the long slot.

2D adaptive doesnt work as well because my tool is as big as the slot is.

Kind regards

You will have to make a sketch that has lines that are at the centerline of the grid and a boarder on the center too.

then 2D Contours, one for the boarder, one for the x's and one for the y's.

you'll have to go to cutter comp. and turn it to the OFF setting, then turn lead in and out off so you get a plung straight down.

of done a lot of these types in HSMWorks as well as other CAM software's and this is the only way, nothing automatic, sorry.

Easiest way without messing with sketches is to use 2D contour, select one edge of a row and turn on stock contours, selecting the boarder of the slots.

looking at your pic again, you will have to create one sketch for the stock contour to get the cutter to start and stop at the correct location.

You could also use the make pattern option.

Select the edge similar to the green highlighted one for the 2-d contour.

Then use make pattern and un-select keep original.edge.JPGpattern.JPGgrid.JPG

here is why I do a sketch for each, one start and end, compensation off.

just a quick representation, would make 3 boarder and the X and Y.
