Form tool origin

I have a tool (slot cutter - on a sierra type arbor - with a 45 degree angle cut).

I use it for reverse chamfer cuts.

I need the zero to be the lower edge of the cutter, and not the clamping nut at the bottom.

I created the sketch with the zero at that level, but it seems that inventor always wants the zero to be the tallest feature of the part. That is not possible to use, as the clamping nut is not a precise measurement.

Any way to do this

Any replies to this

I almost crashed my arbor forgetting about this the other day.

Have you tried to change tip offset value?

What happens, in that case, is that the selected contour in the CAM system is on that height of the tool.

The actual path is still calculated from the bottom of the tool.

That is his issue and has been a problem for a very long time.

Didn't know that, thanks for the info.
