cam browser glitches

Due to other bugs I have removed the cam browser from being just another tab in the new browser UIs..

And I'm seeing stuff like this happening all the time.. Undocking it and docking it again always clears it up..

Notice the right side is cutoff..

Hi @mcgyvr,

I've seen Browser issues not only at the CAM Browser but also iLogic Browser.

Your problem I've seen once, but docking problems I have seen often.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to reproduce the problems on commando.

Met vriendelijke groet | Kind regards | Mit freundlichem Gruß

@Marco.Takx

I'm not surprised at all that other browsers have this same issue but at least that lets the HSM guys off the hook and throws the bug back over to the Inventor side of the wall...  Smiley Wink

I've only seen it with this one so far as the others I keep tabbed together..

I probably should have just posted it over in the Inventor forums but I wasn't aware that other browsers do it too so I thought it might be specific to HSM code..

@mcgyvr What version of Inventor are you running?  This issue was supposed to have been resolved in 2018.1.

Also, something to note, if you have Dell Backup Utility installed on your machine, we've been seeing some issues with that and Inventor HSM.

Thanks for your post!

Today I click on the first operation and the whole cam browser stuff just disappears..

Had to press "setup" from the cam ribbon to get it back.. clicking, esc,etc. didn't do anything..

nothing.PNG

Then I get it back and select Bore2 and it shows the path then also select Drill 5 and drill 5 shows but now bore2 doesn't show anymore..

and the model is now showing white edges...

dual.PNG

Cancel out and repeat and this time its fine and both paths are showing..

There seem to be MANY issues where first time of performing that operation it doesn't work properly.. escaping/canceling out and trying again always works fine then..

I just selected each of the operations one by one and it was adding each and showing all the selected paths.. get to the fourth and all of a sudden the first 3 shop showing the toolpaths..

Cancel out.. do it again and its fine..

I see this on a daily basis..

Are you able to make a screencast of this? It would be really nice to see it "in action". Voiceover is appreciated, so we understand exactly what you're doing.

Thanks,

@jeff.pek

Sorry.. no voice..

but I will try to screencast them.. However the "steps" are half way done already once I notice this stuff happening..

But.. How about this? Is this correct behavior (shouldn't be)..

The toolpaths should go away when I click in the graphics window or click on something in the model browser or edit a feature,etc... but they aren't..

And of course.. I was trying to get some of those to happen again and gave up and just after I stopped trying to screencast I opened another model and clicked on the first operation and bam.. Everything in the CAM browser is now gone again..

That literally is all I did.. Open a file.. Click on the first operation and voila.. disappear..

figures.PNG

@jeff.pek And after this happened all I did was hit the X to close the file to see if I could open it again and this time fire up screencast and BOOM CER...

Thank you for sending your error report CER_157646967 to Autodesk.

edit..

And now another again trying to duplicate/record this stuff for you.. screencast coming for one of the other issues too..

Thank you for sending your error report CER_157647646 to Autodesk.

And another screencast showing how I click on the first operation and the toolpath shows.. Then as I'm multi-selecting more the previous selections disappear..

But then do it again and it works fine..

In CAM options I set it so the CAM dialog is separate. Which makes it more like the Fusion dialog... and more like all the other dialogs in Inventor.

I haven't seen these issues you are having myself in any of the tabs. Hopefully having a separate CAM dialog will help you?

Hi -

Thanks for this video (I'll address the later one separately).

Since the toolpaths that are shown are still there, and the items in the CAM browser are still selected (in that browser), I think it's reasonable for them to continue to be shown. Once you make a change to the model (via the OK button), the operations are marked as out-of-date, but the toolpath data is not removed.

The ability to have multiple browsers (model + CAM) is new in Inventor 2018, so presents some challenges in terms of doing exactly the right thing -- even if we can figure out what the "right thing" is.

It sounds like, in your case, you'd expect the toolpath graphics to be hidden when the model browser is activated -- is that about right?

Hi again -

Can you tell me which build of Inventor HSM you're using?

As far as I can tell, the crashes you experienced here have already been addressed in the 2018.2 update, which should be available to you in the Account Portal or Autodesk Desktop App.

That certainly is odd -- I don't think I've seen cases where selecting additional operations makes the toolpath graphics of other (also-)selected operations be hidden.

Can you let me know if this continues to happen with any reliability when you switch to the latest update?

Thanks,

  Jeff

@jeff.pek

I am using Inventor 2018.1.2

and have Inventor HSM Express 2018 version 5.2.1.44 installed as thats the latest build of that AFAIK..

Inventor 2018.2 is not available yet except for beta users which I am but will not install it until its released officially as this is my "production" machine used for work..

Hopefully these issues (some of them anyway) have been addressed in 2018.2.. I anxiously await the official 2018.2 release then..

To be consistent....when I click in the graphics window or click into other browsers/features,etc.. the toolpaths should disappear just like how they do when I click into the blank space in the cam browser.. They go away then.. They just aren't when clicking anywhere else.. That is inconsistent with all other highlight/display operations in Inventor.. Click a feature in the model browser and it highlights.. click in the main graphics window or anywhere else and that feature is not highlighted anymore..

@scottmoyse Addressing and fixing these issues/inconsistencies is what helps me Smiley Wink

I'm not doing anything wrong here and am following one "supported" process by having a combined cam dialog.. You are just following another supported process..

And FYI I tried it too and some of the issues were still happening.. few of these are related to that specific functions of editing an operation..

However.. the HSM functionality of not having separate cam dialog could be some of the reasons for some of these things I'm seeing.. All the rest of Inventors browsers don't function like that (where the browser becomes the dialog).. All of Inventor has its own "separate dialogs"..

Of course Inventor guys also can't decide on mini-tool bars or legacy dialogs,etc... and that may get even more convoluted here in the near future..

@jeff.pek FYI...

All graphical issues I posted about here are still happening in 2018.2  (here is the one where nothing is showing up at all in the cam browser after I selected the first toolpath...see cam browser in the lower left below the model browser.. notice nothing there).. The issue where I would multiselect and many of paths would disappear and not show is still happening too...

2018-2 cam disappear.PNG

I have not used it enough (since it just was released today) to know if my crashes that I was getting quite often are still happening but I will update this again in a few days or if they happen again..
