Autodesk HSMEdit "Error in ConfigsPath.CFG"

Fired up 2018, went to go confirm clearance on a roughing path by opening the posted file in the editor and got this error:

"Error in ConfigsPath.cfg, the directory "CFG" cannot be created."

Sorta stumped here. Any fixes?

Does the editor not open by default when you post something?

It tries to open when I post a program (with the option selected), but it throws that error...

It also throws that error when I dive into the HSM Works directory and try to open it directly.

Thanks for the report. I've never seen this before, and believe it's coming from the editor.

We're working on trying to find out what might cause this, and what can be done to resolve it.

HI again -

Our theory is that the default configuration of the editor is attempting to store its settings into the c:\Program Files area, where most people don't have write access. To fix this, please try:

- Close any instance of AutodeskHSMEdit.

- In the `AutodeskHSMEdit` installation directory there are two `.cfg` files: `ConfigPaths.cfg` and `ConfigPaths-sample.cfg`.
- Rename `ConfigPaths.cfg` to `ConfigPaths.cfg.bak` (or any other different name).
- Then rename `ConfigPaths-sample.cfg` to `ConfigPaths.cfg`

AutodeskHSMEdit should now work as expected.

Had the same exact problem.

Renamed the files as suggested (although they were in the HSMworks directory)

Worked perfect

I am not finding any config files.  Only thing I can find is a cimco file?  I must be doing something wrong but cannot find anything config.  Thanks

Nevermind I found it.  My student computers differed from my personal so my troubleshooting was unfounded.  The fix worked when I found proper config files.

Hello, Jeff's Solution did not work in my Case with Inventor CAM 2024. Instead I could solve it with set the Path to HSMEdit.exe in CAM Options (Manage > Options > Register "External" > Editor: Path: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Inventor CAM 2024\editor\AutodeskHSMEdit.exe):
