Hello All,

We are working on the Mach3 Plasma post processor and we would be happy to get some feedback from you before we put it into the library.

Please feel free to download and test it. Any questions or comments you may have on this post processor can be made in this discussion.

I wanted to make a part on my son's plasma table. He is running Mach3. All I find are Mach mill Post processors. I tried downloading the above link or figuring out some way to let Fusion install it. I can't make that work. I have been getting updates to Fusion.

What am I missing?

Thanks, Dan.

Hello Dan,

Here is a link on how to download and store posts for Fusion.

Hope this helps out.

Hi Bob,

Sorry to take so long getting back. So I looked at the file in notepad++, it looked like the right stuff. So I added the .cps extension and put it in:

"C:\Users\Dan\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Fusion 360 CAM\Posts" as it comes up as my personal post folder. I'll copy the linuxCNC there also. Then I'll just see the two post processors I would use.

I still have not taken it to his shop to test, life got in the way. 🙂 But I have a feeling it will cut fine.

Thanks, Dan.

I have been using the Mach 3 plasma post processor and it works amazing. There are a couple issues I have identified that may need attention.
1.) “pierce clearance” values under the linking tab in the cutting 2d profile are not reflected in the post code. When I make changes to account for pierce height it does not change anything in my g code. I am using a touch and go head with compensation type “in computer”

2.) pierce delay
For most machines the optimal pierce delay is fractions of a second. When making changes In the post processor it only lets you change this in increments of 1 seconds. .100 of a second would be much more beneficial. Thank you for reading this

so when i use this post processor everything works but my touch off for my torch. i just have a floating head on my plasma table.

I have been using the new processor for a few weeks and found that most of my issues were Mach3 related however it is not perfect.
I have a few bugs still the main one is the code will put the piece height before the g31!
The first move is fine but consecutive ones arnt .
Is this a big or a setting?
Cheers

Hello Rod,

Glad to hear it!  Sorry, I should have posted that the change was made to this thread.

I too am new to Fusion 360 and output to a plasma cutter, but was able to download the mach 3 post processor, created output, and it did ran on Mach 3.  However, I have not found all the settings that Mach 3 normally requires, like:

  • Pierce delay
  • Pierce height
  • cut height
  • Pause at end of cut
  • As

As I am so new to plasma cutting:

  1. It may be there and I don't know it - Where can I find it?
  2. Do those things need set in Mach 3 software?
  3. Should these be part of the tool assignment?

Thanks for any help.

Hello Bob,

You can control most of the parameters that you are asking about from the Post Property Table, which is displayed when you post process from Fusion.  Take a look at the blue properties in the following image.  The post does not currently support a delay at the end of cut though.Properties.png

I found those settings in Fusion 360. However, the local vendor is using
Mach 3, Inkscape, and Sheetcam software, not Fusion 360. I'm trying to do
the post processing and just give them the G-code file, but there's too much
info required to run the part in Mach3 that doesn't get carried over with
the Mach3 post processor and I would like to make the process as clean as
possible to get the expected results.

Sorry, I'm fairly computer and CAD savvy, but plasma is new to me, so I
apologize if my questions seem a bit ?stupid?. I'm learning rapidly and
made three parts that worked, but they weren't as expected though usable.
Since this is my first effort with Fusion 360 and plasma cut parts, I tried
to keep things very simple, so I could learn techniques.

Parts are rather simple:

1. 1" square with a .375" square hole in the middle. (single part and
2x8 pattern)

2. 2" x 8" rectangle with .1 x 1" tab centered in the middle of each
end. This part also has two .375" square holes centered in the part 2.75" CL
to CL.

3. Another simple part from sheet metal that I processed the flat
pattern. Roughly a 2" x 8.895" rectangle with a .094 x 1.050" notch cut into
each end.

The local vendor just installed his plasma table and is still working out
issues with the help of a friend. Friend may be learning as well, but is
getting it to cut parts.

Gday mate, it can be a mine field but for delay at the end of cut I use the spindle off delay setting in Mach 3.The M5 command is basically turning of the spindle to Mach 3.Go to ports and pins , spindle set up and you will see there are four inputs you can do for start delay and stop delay both are for clockwise and counter clockwise .Have  a play but around 0.5 secs is usually enough, don't forget to save your settings when done.

For cut height you can set this in fusion in the heights tab it , feed height setting. However I rely totally on a height controller to do the job for me, as for the rest bob is spot on.hope this helps

I managed to find the cause for some of my issues.

I used the "in computer" settings instead of "in control" to get the path to compensate for the cut width.

I made the plunge speed different from the cut speed and now see them in the G code.

Viewing in Mach 3, the start points all appear to be in the right places, but need to run a part to make sure.

I set plunge height and cut heights, but do not see anything in the G code that looks like the Z is being changed. Any Thoughts?

I was looking at the file: mach3 plasma (3) and found the Z axis is turned off and has the pierce Height set to 0.

useZAxis: false, // specifies to enable the output for Z coordinates
pierceHeight: 0, // specifies the pierce height

Seems like this is why I don't see any Z axis generated in the G-code.

Anyone know why the Z axis is turned OFF?

Click on 2d cutting in CAM. Under the passes tab verify compensation type has “in computer“ selected. If you intend to use the post processor to control the z-axis you’ll need to have this set.

Hi Mate,
I'm assuming you are using my plasma post. you should see a command G31, this was set at Z-100 and then you should have a G92 to reset the Z at whatever you have set the switch height at mine was Z-12.65, you do have a floating z axis do you?
Basically what that does is tell Mach3 the Z axis is compressed 12.65 mm from Zero, it then works out all the rest from that.
you can then command the z axis to a piece height.
If you still not sure email me a sample of the code you are getting and I will have a look.
Rod
