Fusion CAM Post Processor for Gerber Sabre 408

Fusion CAM Post Processor for Gerber Sabre 408

Hi All,

My company has recently started using Artcam to do more complex machining on our Gerber Sabre 408 router.  With Artcam no longer being licensed, I'm looking to find an alternative Cam program to use with our machine.  Unfortunately, very few Post Processors exist for the Gerber 408.  Any chance someone could make one that works with Fusion Cam?  The Post from Artcam along with the Spooler program works great on our machine.  Would it be possible to export the Post from Artcam and Import it into Fusion with stable results?

Thanks for help on this

Adam

You can download the initial post processor for gerber here:

Looking forward to get feedback on this.

I am a co-worker of Adam's, but work in a different facility.  I have been working with him a little on this issue.  We had success with the Artcam and spooler as he mentioned.

The sample g-code created from that post processor will not run properly on the Gerber 408.  The code coming from Artcam looks completely different. Below is a sample of code generated from Artcam that does run on the machine.  It was generated with the Gerber GSP post processor.  It is a 5" x 5" square.

In addition to the above comments, the post for the Gerber out of FusionCam creates an error message when trying to run it through Artspool.  A "Invalid data from input file on Line 1" message pops up whenever you try to drip feed the file to the machine.

Hello,

Thanks for the new post processor for the Gerber Sabre 408 router. I've tested it out and made a few tweeks to the PP- seems to work well with all 2D and 3D toolpaths. If you get a chance could you take a look and let me know if you see any critical errors in the revised Post Processor(runs fine on the machine, but I'm cautious about my tweeks to the javascript)

Thanks again

Adam

Hi Adam,

i also own a sabre 408 (since last year) and i bought it with the idea to start using artcam in the future...

is the post for fusion working fine with your sabre? You mentioned that you made Some tweaks in Java. Are those available or updated in the post?

Hi there,

Please find attached the post processor that I have successfully been using with our 408 Sabre. I would recommend staying away from the adaptive machining ops or reducing the feedrate speeds so that the spooler program for the router can keep up. Otherwise all the other operations seem to work fine.

Hope this helps

Any chance these files can be made public? How are these used with Fusion? Thanks!

Send an email to bradshawa@si.edu - I can send you all the setup and post processor info from there. I emailed the moderators for this forum a while back offering the updated post for the Sabre 408, didn't hear anything back, but still am happy to share with anyone who wants it.

Best

Hello Adam, @Bradshawa

I am very interested in the updated post and any set up information that you have for the gerber saber.  I have emailed you several times however, it apparently hasn't reached you.

Sincerely

Dale

Hi @Bradshawa Would you be willing to share the post processor with me as well?  I recently bought a Sabre 408 at auction and I'm trying to get it up and running with Fusion CAM.

Please let me know!  Thanks!

*Credit to Adam for helping us get it going (wouldn't have been possible without his help / the Fusion settings)

(make this a .cps with notepad by pasting code and save as)

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1vZO9jG_w1O2vwdSl0t9F2v8C1e4iyMig/view?usp=sharing - this is the one from Adam with the edits, we use this one and it works great / he helped us get it going a few years back.

I use this spooler for the .ger file (it originally came with ArtCam which is discontinued / made by DelCam but this works great)

make sure you use these settings in fusion exact (Gerber and Fusion have some weird intricacies like the .01" is important or it will do weird things)

Hi,

so after a lot of issues with onboard serial ports I finally have got the communication running through a usb serial convertor. But I now am having a new issue. I am based in Europe and so my machine is setup in mm and I also draw in mm in fusion. For a test I tried a simpel square of 100x100mm. The file is generated and my sabre starts running the program, but it slams into the end stop of the X axis and goes into an error.

Could the fact that I am doing everything in metric be an issue maybe?
