Problems post-processing horizontal tool orientation.

Hey there

So i have this 3-axis Pedersen VPF-940TI milling machine with Heidenhain TNC 320 controller. The machine has a secondary, horizontal spindle along the Y-axis. I am using Inventor HSM professional 2018

I now need to use this horizontal spindle for a project but sadly i am not able to postprocess the toolpaths.

First i make like a normal CNC setup where i define how workpiece is orientated according to the machines 3 axis´s. How i want piece to be orientated on the table.Billede af setup.png

I then make a toolpath and here i choose the tool orientation option:

I dont really know what i´m doing at this point because i have no experience with this tool-orientation feature. Which way X- and Y-axis are supposed to point and so on. But i kept X-axis as original.

It simulates nicely, just as planned.

But when I try to postprocess it i get following message on HSM editor

I know little or nothing about postprocessors, so could use some input as to what to do.

I just assume it is a problem with my postprocessor.

Any ideas as to how i should proceed?

You need a "use horizontal" option in your post, or you need to activate Cycle 19 in the top of your program to define horizontal mode. From there you can use your standard post as if the machine has a normal orientatie.

Use horizontal is integrated as far as I know in the Heidenhain TNC155 post

Hey Arjan

Thanks for the response and pardon my very late reply. I found another way to solve that particular project i was working on without using the horizontal spidle... but now i got a new project with the exact same problem 😞 I need to make a cnc programme where tool is clamped in horizontal spindle. i can make the programme itself but i just cant post-process it.

i apreciate your input but i just dont understand the answer. Im not very clever with computers or postprocessors, so pardon my ignoranse

You need a "use horizontal" option in your post

Is this something i manually can change/add in postprocessor myself? If so, how does one do that? is it about adding or correcting a line of code in postprocessor?

or you need to activate Cycle 19 in the top of your program to define horizontal mode

i dont understand... In order to manupulate code-lines in my cnc programme then i need to post-prosess it first, right? Do you mean i post-process the programme normally and then do this Cycle 19 thing in the NC editor?

This cycle 19 is that a g-code,m-code or something that i add to top code-line?

i will have a closer look at this.

I have experimented with a few post-processors and TNC155 didnt really work for me.

I have attached the processor i use

Use Horizontal is something you find in the properties list while posting. This is only available for a few post like the Philips post. If you want it build in in your own post, you need someone to customize your post.

Heidenhain Cycle 19 does something similar, it reorientates your workplane. This is something you add by hand in the nceditor. Check you Heidenhain manual for the specifics.

Your control is modern, so you better use the generic heidenhain postprocessor.

Good luck
