Apologies if this has been asked before but I did try a search.

SMC4-4-16A-16B

any help greatly appreciated.

thank you

No I didn't, but I did manage to get a post running. I used a mach 3 post
with a few mods.

what mods did you end up doing to the mach3 post?  I have the same controller and have gotten most things working but seem to have run into a bug with G03 commands not working as I expect.

Thanks

Hello and thank you for your reply.

Firstly that's the first problem I found, and there's no explanation but a
very easy fix.

I don't have the code with me but I can get it later today. It's a simple
option to disable arcs, and replace them with interpolated points. This
makes the code much longer but that won't effect anything. So in effect you
disable G2 and G3 arcs with one line of code which you might be able to
find with a quick google.

That cured it for me and I think that controller is pretty good and I've
done a lot of very tricky things with it.

My other problem is with a manual tool change you want the tool to come to
a home position in between operations (which I treat as 2 separate g-code
files) and the post process adds a load of unnecessary commands at the end
of the file which re-set the coordinate system which is totally not needed.

So I delete the end of each file, and send my machine to the zero position
ready for a tool change. And when it gets going with the second tool it's
bang on.

Apart from not liking the micro sd card there is nothing about that
controller I'd change. It's stopped midway a couple of times but every time
I've managed to get it re-started from the same place - by finding the
restart command.

Please let me know how you get on!

Thanks, I kinda figured I would end up at interpolated points.   From the troubleshooting I've done there is a bug with G3, G2 seems to work fine but there is some sort of offset being applied to G3 ( see below ).  Thanks for the info, very helpful!

Test:

G17
G21
G90
G40
G54

G0X1Y1Z1
G0X50Y20
G1Z-1F500
G2R10
G3R10

Maybe I missed it but it would be awesome if you could share your debugged post-processor file!

I also got this controller and since I'm new to all this, modifying a post-processor file is a bit overwhelming...

Thanks!

When I did the modifications I looked into posting them, unfortunately the license autodesk attaches to the posts don't allow derivative works.  I don't believe we can share the altered posts anywhere but their library which looked to be closed off.

In my experience with this controller, if you avoid chords it works good for what it is.  All I really had to do was disable that and its been pretty reliable.  There was some unexpected (to me) things with the references it does at the end of the program but those will only impact you if you expect the machine be to in the same reference you started in after run.

Oh well I see, too bad this would have been simple!

Right now I'm using a Gcode named post in mm, seem to work ok.

Which post did you modify?

Is the mod consist of only adding a line of code at the right place? or something need to be replaced? Or erased?

Don't be too specific I don't want you to waste your time on this, but knowing the details above should get me started and able to eventually figure this out!

Thanks!
