MultiCam ISO post problems

Running a MultiCam series 7000 gantry router and the post is a mess. At the moment, the post isn't converting 3D toolpaths correctly. It mostly struggles with anything outside of the x-y plane; the post doesn't handle G2 G3 arc moves in the x-z or y-z planes; it doesn't do ramping (i.e. helical ramps); the feedrate posts as in/min when the machine interprets an in/s feedrate. Not really sure how to approach this problem but it's crippling for the machine. We try to run as much smoothing as possible on these large foam moulds we are machining and because the smoothing dumps a tonne of G2 G3 moves into the toolpath, the machine will just crash with what the post processor outputs. I think the problem is the machine's left hand coordinate system and the conversion the post tries to make. Anyhow, the machine runs terribly without smoothing, anyone else with these problems?

Update: I managed to modify the post myself. XZ and YZ arc moves now function correctly & the feeds are converted to in/s by the post. If anyone else needs the modified post, message me I'd be happy to share.

hi,

I would be interested in obtaining the post processor you modified.   Would you be willing to send it to me?    Or insert it as an attachment to a post?

Thank you,

So I'm not sure what models you may have, but our series 7000 has almost a second post processor on a computer that then sends the script to the machine controller. From this computer, the toolpath looks okay, but doing a dry run on the machine produces completely random movements. I can only think this is a fundamental problem with the multicam machine and I'm waiting to hear back from them; I'll update if the post actually ends up working.

I too would like to see your custom Multicam post.  I've been dealing with the in/min vs in/sec issue for years.  It would appear that the Multicam controller doesn't respect the units defined in the file since changing that doesn't seem to change a thing.  I've also had problems with the G81 drill operation.  On this old M103 machine it simply pauses at each drill location and then moves on.  Multicam supports says that G81 is only for machines equipped with a gang drill?

Lastly, Multicam support says that any Post Processor work needs to be worked out with Extra Tech, the manufacturer of the controls system that Multicam uses.  Multicam cannot help with fixing Post Processors.  AND!!  Extra Tech does not work with end users.  They will only communicate with their OEM customers.  So, the situation seems kinda dumb but, that's what they told me.  Perhaps AutoDesk can reach out to Extra Tech and get the skinny on all the weird little issues?

I have been having the same issues with our Multicam 7000 series. I have been attempting to modify the standard multicam post processor to make everything work correctly, but I haven't gotten it quite yet. If possible could you post .cps file you created? I would like to try it with our machine and see what I had missed. @Anonymous
