Multi Axis rewind question

Hi,

I just changed this setting in my PostProcessor: https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-enable-mach...

Now I'm curious why it was turned off in the first place? Is there a situation where this setting (set to true) could be dangerous in comparison with the set to false setting?

Hi @Anonymous

rewind is turned off by default, because it may not be needed by all users.
Plus, as rewind involve switching off TCP, executing some moves, and re enabling TCP, there is some potential risk in this process.
Depending on the controller, its settings, a generic code may not be applicable on all machines.
That why it is not enabled by default. It needs to be tested carefully, and eventually tweaked depending on the machine kinematic.
As an example, with a table-table machine configuration, the rewind can go up in Z, and move to an XY home position. Then we can reposition the rotary axes, before moving back toward the part, and reactivate the TCP before plunging to the location before the unwind.
This is not the best solution for a head-head machine, as it may be better to move the rotary axes after moving up in Z, but before moving to the XY home position. (And moving to XY home position could be debated for hours, safe / waste of time)

So, a "one fit it all" solution is not easy to create.

We implemented an as safe as possible behavior, you can still tune it to your perfection.

Regards.
