Maho 332 Postprocessor (Heidenhain)

Hello,

I am thinking about buying an old Maho 400T for my startup. It has a Maho CNC 332 control (made by Heidenhain). According to manual it should be similar to Heidenhain TNC151/155, but like all Mahos it has a switched Y and Z axis. Where can I get a postprocessor for it?

Regards
Uros

How close would the generic Heidenhain post be if the Z and Y were switched?

If that's all that needs doing, it's an easy modification

And when you say switched, do you mean y positive flipped to negative and z positive to negative? Or the Z axis is labelled Y in the control and Y is Z? Sorry, not sure about the Maho machines.

There are some maho posts out there already but just changing the Y an Z axis sin't that hard.

Or are you talking about a machine that has two spindles and switches over from on to the other?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I don’t have the machine yet, but I looks like that all Maho machines has the same axis orientation. There is a picture of 432 controller axis in the attachment. This is how it looks like. Do you know how to modify the postprocessor to use it with Fusion 360?

Here is one example from Mecsoft if it helps:

Hello,

I am totally net to CNC machining and to postprocessors. I am just looking to an old machine to buy it and to start learning. And I am afraid, that I will not find a postprocessor for such an old machine. It is form year 1988, but in a very good condition.

The spindle can be used in two ways – look at the picture in attachment. How to use a postprocessor for both options?

In the Heidenhain TNC155 manual (which should be similar to Maho CNC 332) it is written, that the programs may be entered in Heidenhain plain-language or standard ISO 6983 format. The only difference is that by Maho the Z axis is not vertical.
How can I switch the axes?

I can't imagine it would be difficult to change, just change all references of " Y" to " Z" and visa versa in the post. Not sure how circular moves would work with this, I'd need to do some research.

A better option would be to set the job to be working from the side in HSM and have a different home position. Mainly because if the tool is angled like that:

then just switching Z and Y would give bad results.

Imagine setting up with the tool in positive Z, the software would think its milling with a flat bottom tool, when in reality, its on its side. So it would think it is machining like this:

When in reality, you wouldn't be. I would say create a setup with the Z in the correct direction of your machine and be a bit more creative with the toolpaths 🙂 So instead of face in this instance, I would use 2D contour with some different settings and you would get a result like this:

Which would give you more accurate stock removal and collision checking.

So there may not be a need to change the post 🙂

I'm not sure if I understand your proposal correctly, but it looks like go-around which needs a lot of imagination of thinking by programing. This can bring a lot of mistakes into the program.

The most common way to mill is with spindle in vertical position, but as you can see, Maho has some switched axes, which are not standard on most of machines. Is it possible to change the axis system in Fusion 360, so that it would show the right orientation of axes, which would correspond to machine coordinate system?

No we can't change the Y-axis to be the tool axis in Fusion it's self.

So with switching the axis in the post processor, it will be a switch between the programming world and the machine, but there are others that do use the software like this.

Since you don't have the machine it looks really complicated but it isn't as bad as you think.

I understand the flipping of the axes and as Laurens said, it can be done in the post. The issue with your screenshot is the program would think your milling with the flat bottom of the tool, but really you'd be using the side? So the whole simulation is incorrect

Hi,

I created a post for a Maho 232 Heidenhain if im right in 2014, its only designed to work vertical (so Z=Y), if you want you can have it. Please send me a PM with your email.

Hi Arjan,

could you please send me that postprozessor for the Maho CNC 332 as well?

I also have got a lovely machine Maho 332 and can‘t find a suitable Postprozessor for it.

Could you please help me?

Thank you in advance

Good day

Is this post still available or does anyone else have a post for a Maho 232, or even two post that allow for the full use of these machines in vertical and horizontal modes?

Kind regards

@bhdrew1

I don't have a post for this exact machine, but I have a post for old heidenhain machine where Z and Y axis are switched.

I guess it will work on your machine too, so if you want send me a message and you can try my post processor.
