Issue after loading Inventor CAM 2021 free trial

I have downloaded a trial version of inventor pro 2021 and also inventor Cam 2021 to trial it as a possible replacement to our current CADCAM software.

Inventor 2021 works fine, but if i add the CAM package in, i can no longer select things in the Inventor graphics window.

Is this a known bug, or is there a setting I need to adjust somewhere?

i tried the inventor reset, which did seem to work initially, but if I close inventor and open it again, the issue returns.

i am at a loss on how to resolve this, and obviously the trial period clock is ticking. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

When you can't select anything, just while working with Inventor CAM functions or any Inventor tools?

Hi Mark,

Both. cant use CAM tools, and if for instance i try to make a part in inventor, i cant select the XY origin plane to make a 2D sketch. it highlights the plane but does not select it. If i do not load Inventor CAM then the issue goes away.

It sounds like you have a bad install of Inventor Cam (add on).  I haven't heard of this issue before.

@mdavis22569 have you heard of anything like this for the 2021 release?

Question does it ding / make a noise if you're trying to do anything ?

Using more than one monitor?

I did not notice any noises, but in inventor the cursor changes from an arrow to an arrow with a plus sign when i have the issue with selection. I am only using one monitor.

I have already uninstalled CAM and reinstalled a new download with the same result. However, having just looked back on your download site, it does recommend closing any antivirus software during the download / install. I will try another fresh install with the antivirus turned off to see if that might be causing the issue, but i will not be at that pc till tomorrow now.

Hi! Try the following and see if it makes a difference. After you install Inventor CAM, start a new assembly. After that, are you able to start a new part and a new sketch?

i tried creating an assembly first, as you suggested, but it made no difference at all.

i then un-installed both inventor 2021 pro and inventor CAM Ultimate 2021 along with all the other Autodesk apps. 

i cleared the registry of all Autodesk keys/data/values.

i then re-installed inventor 2021 pro free trial & inventor CAM Ultimate 2021 free trial.

After all this, the same issue remained. Inventor 2021 works fine without  Inventor CAM loaded, but when you load CAM it seems to affect the functionality of both apps.

i have got it to work sometimes (using the repair feature on inventor CAM or Inventor reset) but as soon as you close inventor and open it again the issues reappear.

I am out of ideas now, i have spent the best part of 2 days trying to get these free trials to run together and i think i'm going to have to give up and look for another CADCAM solution unless there is someone from Autodesk who can help me.

After a few frustrating days i have now come up with a work around for my issue.

I have had to stop the Inventor CAM addin from loading automatically. if i load inventor and clear the 30 day trial window, then load the CAM addin manually it all works fine.

obviously, this workaround will suffice to trial the software, but can anyone advise me if i will be able to load the addin automatically if we purchase at the end of the trial?

I would not expect the operator to have to load the addin for every individual part being manufactured.

We've noticed a problem in trial scenarios, but don't know why it's happening. It seems to be triggered due to the presentation of one or the other of the trial reminder message windows.

What we've seen is that most of the CAM commands are disabled when you open a document. I haven't noticed the other behavior you describe, but it's possible that that's another symptom.

So far we don't have a workaround. We don't think there should be any issues once you have a full version.

Yes, my impression is that the CAM package is loading before the inventor trial licence check has completed. Anyway, i have found a work-around for our trial. Hopefully this will be of use to others who find themselves in the same position. Thanks to everyone who tried to help.
