Inventor HSM 2017 4.1.0.075

We just posted a new development version of Inventor HSM on http://cam.autodesk.com/inventor-hsm-experimental/

Along with a bunch of fixes, this version includes a number of new features in beta mode, and we would very much appreciate your feedback on those:

  • Added "Wrap Toolpath" option to 2D Contour, 2D Pocket, 2D Adaptive for creating 4-axis substituted operations.
  • Added Secondary Spindle Chuck, Pull, Return operations.
  • Probing: Support probing from stock.
  • Added Taper Angle parameter to "Face Mill" tools.
  • Added Corner Radius parameter to "Face Mill" tools.

  • Added "Ball" mode to "Tapered Mill" tools.

  • Added "Thread Mill" tool type.

For the Wrap feature there is still a couple of open issues: Specifically the height cylinders are orientated wrong, and stock contour and entry points don't work correctly. No need to report these.

Any idea when the wrap toolpath may be ported to HSMWorks?

I have a couple of parts coming up soon where this would be a big help.

Good to see this stuff making it into HSM, also with @electromechanica in some ways too though and wait with bated breath for them to hit HSMWorks as well (at least probing).

Looks cool, a lot more work needs to go into the wrapping though

Still cant wrap 360deg.

Hello,

Just a little correction.

"Order by Area" is added to 3D Adaptive and not to 2D Adaptive.

@George-Roberts Not entirely sure what you are showing on the screenshot here. Could you possibly share the example with me?

We're continuing to improve the wrapping, but for now you can do full 360 degree wraps from a sketch.

@ivan.stanojevic Order by Area was already in 3D Adaptive. The change in this version is that the option was added to 2D Adaptive also.

I managed to get that output (I'm not sure what it is either) by just selecting two edges of a cylinder. I'll send the part to your mail 🙂

Sorry then, but for some reason I cannot see this option in 2D Adaptive strategy.

I think I know the problem.

You can wrap around a part more than 360 degress but it should be a "pocket", and by that I mean the ends are not allowed to connect to each other.

@ivan.stanojevic it's under Multiple Depths.

@George-Roberts as @Laurens-3DTechDraw points out this is not supported. We do need to add an error message for that, though.

You can, however produce a toolpath for this example by adding a sketch in the XY plane and then selecting that for the pocket geometry. I attached an example.

The heights are a little wonky, and it should work regardless of the chosen WCS. We'll get that fixed.

Thats pretty cool! Thanks guys 🙂

Does anyone know if there's some addin that could 'unfold' a surface to a sketch? Guess the sheet metal stuff could produce somthing similar

Thank you.

The Wrap function automatically unfolds/unwraps/unrolls the geometry in order to calculate the toolpath.

I suppose we could add a utility function "Unwrap to sketch", but it would not be associative, and so for CAM purposes it is better to use the implicit unwrapping.

What would you use it for?

Sounds good. I was thinking as a way of creating the example sketch you done to machine full 360.  Would also be useful for creating decals for parts 🙂 but that's more Inventor related rather than HSM

Cheers

First of all a big thank you to the development team for making this!

Cause this is awesome for on lathe's with driven tools.

First tests show that not all posts are set-up for this though. So people me start asking about that.

Will probably do some real life testing tomorrow.

Excuse me, but I can not produce the same toolpath what you have done. Even if I edit the operation and regenerate it I received the "pending" status of the operation.

Exactly how should I activate the wrap functionality?

You need to run 4.1.0.075 and enable beta mode.
