Allow user read-only access in desktop app

We would like to give a team member read-only access to a project.

I thought it would be as simple as setting her role to Viewer, but then the project doesn't show up in the Project Browser in the desktop app. It does appear in the web-interface, but the web-based viewer is insufficient.

The user can open a design from the project in the desktop app (either from the web-view or by using the search function in the desktop app), but then all external components show as Unresolved, even though they are part of the same project, without the possibility of resolving them.

After some searching it appears this is by design.

Based off the Pro Tip at the end of the following article we tried creating a new Design and including the component we want to share, but the same thing happens with all external components being Unresolved.

Is there any way to achieve what we need?

When someone opens a design in Fusion, they have the option to then switch it to "read-only for me" for that session.  Basically, what is needed is the possibility of setting this for a certain user permanently for all files in a project, which is what I would expect the Viewer role to accomplish.

It seems 'Reader' role would serve the purpose perfectly. You just need to use the 'Fusion Folder Level' project type.

Role types: https://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/?guid=FT-PROJECT-REF

How to assign roles: https://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/?guid=FT-ROLES-FOLDER-LEVEL

Yes, looks like it. I believe this role is a recent addition. I will have to look into the specifics later.

Hi @erik.toussaint ,

You can  upgrade the project to Folder Level by following some simple steps outlined here: https://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/?guid=FT-UPGRADE-PROJECTS

After that you can assign Reader role to a member for the entire project or specific folder.

Refer: Manage people in Folder-Level projects

Groups of members can be created and permission  be assigned to groups instead of individual users: Work with groups in project folders
