Wood Appearance Grain Direction Glitch in Viewer (share public link)

Hi,

I'm a new Fusion 360 user and I've had fair bit of success using it to creating renderings for a series of style packages developed for a new furniture piece my company is developing. The renderings are great.

We included links to the A360 viewer (via the share public link function) so that our potential customers can "take a tour" of the table. Unfortunately, we're seeing wood grain direction rotation for our dining table top. I've tried fiddling with the appearance options and the physical material options without success.

I've attached a screen shot of the model in the viewer (incorrect orientation) and a screen shot of the model in Fusion 360 (correct orientation).

Is this a bug or user error?

Hi @gwtomblingson

Thanks for posting! It looks like you are experiencing some issues with appearances being rotated in Fusion 360.

While I have not seen this behavior in the A360 viewer before, I have seen issues with appearances being rotated when rendering. This was discussed at this link - it is likely that the problem you are experiencing is related to this thread. Please give it a read - there are some workarounds that may help presented over there. I noticed that the sample designs I used in that thread show rotated appearances when I share a public link, which suggests that the behavior you are experiencing is related to ticket FUS-34048, logged for the other thread.

If you'd like to share the problem design with me using any of these techniques, I am happy to have a look!

I believe that I have the same issue with wood grain. The orientation of the gain is critical. And yet this article does nothing to identify how to get the grain oriented properly. I have created a piece of wood and on one if the flat faces the grain runs the length of the board, and on the edges it is perpendicular to the board.

Is it not possible to orient the appearance to be more realistic? Also, if you see this board, it is hard to see any real wood grain. The appearance is very blurry. Is there any way to get the scale of the appearance to be more realistic?  Is using a decal the only solution?
