Hi @tombaker,

If the main use of the laptop will be Fusion then you will have issues but if you're only working with small files occasionally then it may be doable.

The main issues are that the CPU has a lack of cores which whilst Fusion is mostly single-threaded background processes also need some space. Another issue is the low processor speed which is really needed for Fusion.

Other considerations would be a dedicated GPU so you have greater VRAM and also a larger SSD since 256GB doesn't go far with an OS and Reserve Space leaving you with probably 170GB for apps and data.

What is your budget?

I was hoping $1800. I am looking for a rugged laptop to use in the field, exposed to dust, heat and humidity.

Thanks for your response

Hi, @tombaker

$1800 is more than plenty unless that's a typo - you could be a commercial mobile workstation if you are so inclined - Dell Precisions is a solid choice if you looking at professional grade.

If you want to save a buck there are plenty of gaming laptops that will do just as good of a job if spec'd correctly.
