What Specs Do I Need?

I’m trying to figure out what sort of specs a new computer will need in order to import mesh files in Fusion 360 and then be able to work with these files without things freezing up, crashing, or taking forever to do. For now, at least I’m only interested in being able to import .obj/mesh files, manipulate the size of the model, and simulate tool paths for CNC work. Typically, the models I’ve worked with will initially have a face count between 1-2+ million. I’ve tried reducing the number of faces but this eliminates too much detail. More specifically, they’re all one single piece with a lot of detail – think in terms of sculptures, friezes, decorative picture frames, etc... I looked at what Autodesk says are the minimum system requirements for Fusion 360 before buying my current laptop, and thought I would be just fine but it’s entirely incapable of doing what I want it to and I’m clueless as to where I went wrong.

Thanks!

I am not sure Fusion 360 is the right software for that sort of CNC machining.

Hi,

Check out the tools from V-Carve and Aspire from Vectric.

@MNofsinger1

Another option might be PixelCNC by Deftware

No, I don't think Fusion is the problem...my question is/was what are the necessary hardware specs that'll allow the simulation of tool paths in a reasonable amount of time given I work with models with a rather large face count?

Hi,

Maybe you will find the answer if you run the application once on the fastest available system.
