what do I do once I find my backup post-crash?

Hey so I went to save my project and fusion crashed. five minutes prior, the system had auto-saved a backup file.
when fusion restarted, I didn't have "Open recovery files" because it was greyed out. so I dug into text commands and located the file (see attached screenshots). I went to open that and it said "Haha loser, you can't open your backup because we don't recognize the kind of backup file we specifically saved it as."
So I went back into my files to open the file and got a hilarious error message for the original file itself. (screenshot of that is on the next post)
So here I am, with a ton of work invested into this project and now I can't even go back to the version I started with this morning.
Any ideas on how to get this stupid backup file to work? It's there. it's obviously there.
