What changes the direction of chamfer?

I have a copy of the same design. Working on the same edge the chamfer command points differently in each design. Below are pictures showing the difference. One is pointing parallel to the bore, the other is pointing perpendicular. It's the same chamfer command options, "Distance and an Angle".

What influences the initial direction of the chamfer? With Inventor, I can reference a face with the selected edge to control which way to measure the chamfer. Is there any way to control the direction of the chamfer in a similar manner? What changes the direction of the chamfer?

I found this behavior: When deleting a face of a chamfer and applying another chamfer to the 'healed' edge seems to orient the chamfer command differently than before.

Hi @ercwtsnHDS,

This is something I reported also.

You can’t Flip it.

I think (and I have to test it)is that the selection you do can be the edge of the flat surface or the edge of that round surface.

Thanks for the reply.

Apparently I'm not alone in noticing the behavior. The only viable solution I've found is to revolve a cut for the chamfer. But that's more clicks and another sketch to manage.

Hi @ercwtsnHDS,

That’s true. I also hate this work around.

How hardhandig it be to implement this like every other CAD software.

I'd love to see this model. I'm not seeing this on my end. It seems to always point inward the right way(?). EDIT I finally got it to do that but i'm not sure its actually wrong per say.

What is wrong is that you can't switch the direction in the chamfer tool when using the distance and angle option making this option, if not useless, very infuriating.

Specially infuriating since its been in "consideration" (ignored) for over 4 years And dozens of threads on the same subjects if not more.

Here's my exemple to add to the lot :

Ps : @ercwtsnHDS Thank you verry much for the workaround

For future Googlers, there's a little button marked Flip in the chamfer panel now. Permanently flips the chamfer direction for any edge.
