Weird BUG behavior when splitting and combining (including random view style changes)

This is the 3rd or 4th time Fusion crashes while using the spilt and combine command.

In this case I tried to spilt a body using the underlying sketch a tooling. Always a bit of a pain in the butt to get this to work anyway. See added foto: I would prefer to select this body, then 4 sketch lines to create 4 separate parts (two sides and back and front) This is apparently nog possible although it seems to be able to do it, piece by piece and then connecting the parts that got split exidentaly by the extension of the spilt. And before you ask: no, I don't want to extrude then separately in the beginning and yes I switch off the extension option.

Anyway, through some trial and error I get the parts split but when I am gluing them back together, some parts suddenly turn black (or last time into wireframe mode) After this happens it doesn't take long for fusion to crash.

Can anyone shine some light to what is going on?!

Hi,

1. I suspect that the behaviour is system-related
2. please share the files for an analysis
3. the cut at the frame can also be done differently

For the first Split Body, Fusion must always be able to create a second or more parts.
One line in one corner does not make two parts.

For a mitred frame, make the cutter 2 joined lines at 90 deg and aligned to cut the corners.

Two of these cutters will make a 4 part frame, with only 2 Split Bodies.

Might help….

Hey Dave, I understand the concept of needing to be able to make 2 parts at once, The 90 degree solution only works in the case of a square though.. this model is a rectangle and then these lines won't be collinear 😞

I do find it a bit silly its also not able to split the body with two lines that are not collinear.. it still would create 2 bodies, and there really is no reason why it could not. I even tried to create a plane to split the model with but then it also extents it to whatever it comes across.. Another option would be to use that plane to project the model on as a sketch and then use that to split but djiezzzz, that is finding a work around for a work around... anyone has a shorter option to reach the desired effect?

Thanks for your reply, I am curious to see what you find... Please find the model attached. It is before I made the split because I can't save it during a crash 🙂

Nice! never considered the cutting line like that... smart! I'll give it a go in my model. Still curious why fusion flips out the way I do it though.. But then again fusion is not the most stable of programs to say the least...

fusion is not the most stable of programs to say the least

Harsh!  Takes experience to know what you can do with each tool.

Some near coincident problems / errors occasionally, but if you don't cut you don't have to join.

I would be reconsidering the browser structure of your file, I could not see the Design Intent.

One Component with numerous bodies is not a standard setup, and may be part of the problems, that did not surface for me.  (edited the sketch and one Split Body took both cutters)

welllll I mean are we going to open up that can of worms? I worked with Inventor quite a long time... NEVER had one crash. In the last 10 years working with Fusion? I can't even keep track. Just search for the words 'bug' or 'crash' and then tell me this prog is stable... I mean, check the log that Autodesk itself posts about bug fixes and such... I mean I don't say I'm right, and happy for you if you have another experience but this is my experience, maybe I'm super unlucky and incompetent. Could be.

And as far as restructuring... many roads lead to Rome and you don't have to see the intent, that aaaaall good 🙂

Your tip was impeccable though and solved the split in one go. Thankful for that, it was perfect! I will definitely use that in the future in my very flawed way of working 😉
