view cube becomes deactivated

hello,

i have noticed that occasionally the view cube is not working correctly. the small house icon disappears and the cube becomes inactive. clicking on it does nothing. also it seems like its is a lighter shade of grey? that may be due to it not being clickable. i have not found any solutions to this issue, and i cannot determine the cause. usually it becomes usable after a while. hopefully this is just user error and someone can tell me how to fix it. its not a huge issue but it is very frustrating.

thanks

I would rather this was kept civil; I don't subscribe to your view.

Whatever the planning reasons that puts the focus/priority of development activity on other things is down to Autodesk.  I cannot reproduce this problem "on demand" or "through a sequence of activities", it just seems to happen.  It would be reasonable to ask how this has been recorded and prioritised for investigation?

I thought commenting on this thread with video example of the issue would help.
Sadly, it's only mean comments to Autodesk.

Yes, it's a bug

Yes, it's been like that for years

Yes, I would be mad if I was paying for Fusion, which i'm not as i'm a community and opensource builder, but there's other software to spend your money on if you're not happy. Or give the money to FreeCad, I'm sure you'll get direct contact with a dev to solve your issue...

As a side, I would also add that the moving the ViewCube from a laptop trackpad lock the cube in a "moving state" if you release the trackpad click "outside of the Fusion window"... this is also pretty annoying...

Thats said, I'm going to unsubscribe to this thread.

I hope Autodesk will have enough informations to investigate a little further. If not, please contact me directly, I'm sure Autodesk support knows how to do it.

Good luck to all !

I guess you’ll have unsubscribed by now but I hope your video helps give them some idea although the difficulty seems to be reproducing it with defined steps.  It seems to require sitting down and using the app for an indeterminate period of time to see it occur AND to have the necessary software probes in place to see what happened.  I expect that’s a fair bit of work for someone but it’s probably worth the effort given the persistent nature and duration of the problem.

I can understand it can be frustrating but I don’t think it’s necessary to be uncivil in forum responses as it doesn’t help (your responses have been fine.)

Thanks for the video. That's a new complaint - that the view cube works but isn't displayed at all.

Did you happen to catch a video of how this happened? I would like to log a ticket for this, but I need to be  able to reproduce the effect, i.e. make it happen.

Hi Phil,

I've been experiencing this as well. I was able to find a way to reproduce the disappearing (but still functional) home cube issue. Screen recording attached.

Steps:

1. Start with a new design with the goal of making, and then post-editing, a loft.

2. On a plane, make a sketch, then a sketch object like a circle. Exit/finish the sketch.

3. Make a construction plane, offset away from the sketch in step 2.

4. On the new plane, make a sketch, and then a sketch object. Exit/finish the sketch.

5. Begin a loft, selecting both sketch objects from steps 2 and 4 as profiles, and then exit/finish the loft.

6. Right click on the loft in the design history, click 'edit feature'.

7. Click the "top" square of the view cube. After the view moves to the "top" position, the cube disappears and the comments bar becomes blacked out. The comments bar can come back if you click the button to expand it, assuming yours is already collapsed to begin with. I'm unable to get the cube to come back without restarting Fusion.

Hope this helps!

System and Software:

Fusion 2.0.21508 arm64 [Native]
Active Plan: Personal
macOS 15.3.1 (24D70) on Mac16,11

Mac Mini M4 Pro 14 Core, 64GB RAM

Triple monitor - Dell U2412M 1920x1200@60hz LoDPI (a scaled HiDPI mode exhibits the same issue)

I had the first occurrence of this in a long time tonight.
Interesting that I was doing very similar steps when it went away.
Restating was the only solution.

Thanks for the steps. That works for me too. I'll raise the awareness in the ticket, the developers can debug it with these steps.

Thanks for taking the time to create those repeating steps. It really helps when every click matters, and this case is one of those.

The issue with Loft is fixed in development. The build will be available before the next major release via the Fusion Insider program

If anyone knows of another way to create this issue, without using the Loft command, please let me know. The key to the Loft case is the view cube is clicked during edit feature of an existing feature.

Excellent news! Thanks to you and the dev's work on getting this worked through. I've put in an application for the pre-release program. If approved, I'll test this out and report back if necessary.

Or when the little home icon keeps moving when you hover your mouse over it so you can never click on it............

- Time Magazine’s Person of the Year 2006
- Apple M1 Max rMBP A2485 // Latest MacOS // Latest Fusion
- Usually working off files uploaded to Fusion as: Step, STL, SLDPRT. If it matters ask me.

it seems to be working now

leading up to it
1) disk clean
2) may have been in-between some editing command similar to other discussions

3) reboot machine
4) reload Fusion360 =view cube functioned again
