Version Control of Designs

How do you manage versions of a design in Fusion 360?

I find that I always end up with over 10 versions when I really only want the current version and perhaps one or two others representing mile stones.

So I started to make copies of my design, only to have Fusion reset the version number for me back to V1! On top of this, when you open the design, Fusion changes the date to the current date --even if you didn't change it! So now an old version is dated with today's date and called V1...

So what do we do? Should I create a backup folder and copy versions to that --so they look like "Widget really V5. V1. Date Today" ?

There must be a better way.

I think that using "Milestones" in Fusion might help with your concerns:  Milestones.  This does not change the number of versions of a design, but just designates some versions more important than others.  You will not get out-of-date warnings for references (Insert into another design, Drawing, etc) until you declare a version to be a Milestone.

Thanks @jeff_strater
I must have been subconsciously aware of this to be using the name... milestones in F360 I will see about learning how this works.
