when there is a group and user hovers over it on the timeline

then whole group is "highlighted" on the 3d view

which is fine

and sketches do honor visibility

but

construction doesn't honor visibility

which is verrrry annoying

I cannot replicate what you are trying to do.  Maybe you should also attach a model where this occurs.  I attached mine for your to try.  There is one construction plane in the timeline, hover over the Group and it will highlight.

I think the complaint is that construction items, such as planes, highlight even if the visibility of all construction items it turned off (using the top-level toggle on Construction, not the item-level toggle on the plane). Sketches apparently behave differently.

I'm not sure which behaviour I prefer, but at least they should be consistent.

How can you say they behave differently?  In the animation I posted you can clearly see the folders for both the sketches and construction are toggled on with all entries below each have their visibility toggled off.  When I hover over the timeline group, they all are exposed in the same fashion.

In your animation the folders are on and you toggle the individual items on and off. In the original complaint he is toggling the folders on and off.

"that is correct commander" @matthewZYM62 😉
the issue is that user cannot switch on or off the construction highlighting even if he can do it with sketches
in fact only sketches works well IMO

@jhackney1972 see... in your animation, when you hover over the group, the construction (the plane) is highlighted in gray (on 3d view)no matter if you turn the construction visibility on or off
