URGENT my FUSION account expired and now I can't SAVE my file I've been working on!!

I was designing my surf tool on Fusion 360 and my account expired while I was using FUSION 360 and now I can't save my file at all!! It's really weird I've got the application open on my computer with my FUSION account expired and another application tab with my account ready to go. But if I quit my application it won't save and I need it! Any help would be appreciated!

I'm not 100% certain, but see if you can Export it as a Fusion Archive (F3D) - if this works, it will save the design to a local file on your hard drive, so at least you have a copy that you can upload to your new account.

Hey Jeff,
Thanks for the response however no export and any actions for the file
could be done.

Hey @Anonymous

If the file is still open, there is a 'force crash recovery' that might work.

Cheers,

I had this exact problem and nope.. it doesn't work. The program didn't allow me to save my project in any way and not even the 'force crash recovery' worked, so I just lost 3 hours of work... Please FIX this problem/BUG so that nobody else will get this problem in the future..

Hi @Anonymous

Can you elaborate on the force crash recovery not working? When pressing the shortcut, nothing will happen in Fusion, but an .f3d will appear in your local cache. It is necessary to dig through the folders to get it.

Yes I pressing the shortcut and I checked my "C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\CrashRecovery\" and there was nothing in that folder or any of the other folders. Somehow I was using a read-only Fusion 360 version because my "education version" was expired but was still able to build stuff just not save it, in any way.

Ah, I think that filepath may have been incorrect.

C:\Users\name\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Autodesk Fusion 360\**USERID**\CrashRecovery\

That user ID is a sequence of letters and numbers like ABCD1234EF - unique to your account.

I just did a test, and I am seeing them appear on my side. Maybe try looking now? I would think they would still be there.

Can't find it in there either. I have some old backup files there but not that one I tried to find, but no worries it doesn't matter anymore (for me at least) I don't need the backup file anymore.

This just happened to me. No export button, no CrashRecovery, nothing. There goes over 5 hours of work. I'm beyond angry right now.

Just had the same issue, this needs to be fixed, why can such a major bug exist for so long?

Just happened to me.  Working on a design.  Subscription expired.  Purchased a new one.  Could not save my design.  This is a horrible design flaw.  The application should check subscription status and allow saving.  I will forever remember how you added a nice button to subscribe in the app and then once I did would not allow me to save the design that I spent so much time refining.  Beyond angry is an understatement.

Can you File>Export your *.f3d file to your local drive and then Attach it here to a Reply?

As others have mentioned, there is no option to export the file. When you hover your mouse over "Export", all of the listed options are grayed out.

This just happened to me as well, so this "bug" is still very much there. (Not really a bug, so much as a poor choice in design.)

I did see the red "account expired" in the top corner, but figured that meant the program wouldn't work at all. However, I was surprised to find everything still usable and (admittedly foolishly) decided to start working anyway,  assuming maybe there was a limitation somewhere else, such as not being able to share, export, print, etc. I DID NOT account for the chance it wouldn't allow me to save AT ALL. Even after renewing my subscription, the state of the project I was working on was stuck in "read only mode" limbo. I tried everything I could think of, including the "force  crash recovery" function mentioned above to no avail. There was, however, ONE thing it allowed me to do: Capture Image. (Under File options) This is almost a tease/slap in the face... I at least have some proof of the hours I wasted.

TLDR: AUTODESK - PLEASE ADD A WARNING DIALOGUE - If we can't save a project when an account is expired, fine, but at least make it impossible for the idiots like me to not to realize this beforehand. (Seriously, there's normally a warning when projects haven't been saved, yet, but there was nothing this time.) Orrrr... allow the subscription to to be renewed WITHOUT closing the program.

Like the others above, I was beyond angry. Now, I'm just tired and dejected.

This is a conscious, anti-consumer choice to force you back into the subscription. It's not a bug, it's a feature.

It's amazing how after this many years, you have the same problem with this software. Is it that hard to have a proper license recheck that works? I'm baffled how you are this anti-consumer, shame on you.

OK old thread but seemingly common problem to which I seem to have inadvertently found a work-around. Hopefully this will help someone else.

This happened to me. Spent all day on a model only to discover when I went to save the file before going home that my account was expired. Went online and renewed my subscription but still couldn't save. Turned my wifi off and back on, but still no-go. Frustrated, I closed my laptop (leaving 360 open), put it in my bag and went home intending to try and figure something out the next day. The next morning I opened my laptop and connected to my home wifi, went into 360 and it magically reconnected, recognized my renewed account and let me save my project. Whew!

So it seems its a combination of going offline and allowing some time to pass for your session to expire apparently forcing 360 to re-authenticate and recognize the renewed account. If this happens to you, try this and good luck!
