Upper menu completely black

Upper menu completely black

While starting Fusion 360 after the last update 27 Apr 2021, the full upper and lower parts of the screen are completely black. The menus seems to be in their usual places but the toolbar is completely black.

I updated the video drivers, changed to all possible options in preferences--> graphics driver but nothing helped.

I even tried to re-install the software without any better result.

Funny is that a few days ago it worked perfectly...

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Hi @Anonymous,

Try to add Environment Variable

Screenshot 2021-04-28 at 1.38.11 PM.png

If above solution is not working.

Restart your PC and try to launch fusion 360

If you still see the same issue, then

Please Remove/edit below Environment Variables

  • Variable Name: QT_OPENGL
  • Variable Value: software

And add below Environment Variables.
  • Variable Name: QT_OPENGL
  • Variable Value: angle

So I tried the environmental variance and it worked for a while today.  However, I just re-opened Fusion, it froze up and closed itself.  When opening a 2nd time, now the upper menu is completely white.  🤔  Should I go delete/re-add the variance?

Hi @Anonymous ,

Can you tell me which variable you have added?
Is it software or angle?

Edit and change the variance from software to angle.

Let me know if that works.

Edited:

To make the toolbars visible in Fusion 360, add a new environment variable:

  1. In the Windows Control Panel, search for "Environment Variables".
  2. Click "Edit the system environment variables".
  3. At the bottom of the System Properties dialog, click "Environment Variables...."
  4. Under "User variables for <user>", click "New".
  5. Enter "QT_OPENGL" within the Variable name.
  6. Enter "software" within the Variable value.
  7. Restart Fusion 360.
  8. If the setting causes further issues, repeat steps 1-4.
  9. Edit the "QT_OPENGL" variable, entering "angle" within the Variable value.
  10. Restart Fusion 360.

Changing to angle worked, however, now when I click insert, then choose insert from my computers, it's not opening my explorer window to choose an image.  It goes straight to asking me to choose a plain, then freezes up and either closes itself or I have to force it closed.

... means:

"Please Remove/edit below Environment Variables

  • Variable Name: QT_OPENGL
  • Variable Value: software

And add below Environment Variables.
  • Variable Name: QT_OPENGL
  • Variable Value: angl"

after that i have no problems even with inserting graqhics from my computer into a drawing.

Hi @Anonymous @Anonymous @j.krebsUSQ2E @etienne88ESW @Anonymous ,

The latest Fusion 360 Update has the fix, Build number 2.0.10148.(You may need to restart Fusion 360 to see Auto-Update)

Note: After Fusion 360 updated to build  2.0.10148 version, then you can clear the environment variables.

Good morning.  As I work in a local school district, I do not have access to change system variables on my pc.  Is there another work around?  I can use the online 360 but when I leave an image on the screen for several minutes for my students it will time my session out.

The angle environmental variable worked for me for using Intel UHD 620 and UHD 630 onboard graphics. Rendering however is much slower than it was prior to the update.

I had the exact same screen.  Black top and bottom.  I found a solution, I think.  The problem seems to have started when I bought a huge monitor from Dell and loaded their Display Manager.  Unloading the manager fixed the problem.  However, I have not tried every permutation of version of the Display Manager (two available) and I just got an automatic upgrade of Fusion 360.  I'm operational again and must move onward. I can manage my own display for now.
