Using Educational version of Fusion, uploaded STEP files created original in SolidWorks by a student. Upload just fine into Fusion, but when trying to save after making any changes, gives me errors like "the design contains external reference(s) from other team hubs", or "Cannot be saved - Cross-Team Reference". Is STEP not the format I should be uploading from? Thanks in advance for any help!

Could you possibly share one of these designs for me to test?

If it can be shared in public, you could attach it in a response to me. You must use the forum web page controls to attach the file. (email responses to forum pages do not carry attachments)

If it should remain private we can take care of it via email, just send me a PM with your contact info.

Thanks,

Thanks for sending the file. I have no problem uploading, opening, modifying or saving the design. However, this is only a single part with one body and one component. I think the problem is different than a single part file issue.

When you upload these designs, are they only a single part, like the one you sent me, or are they assemblies of many parts? Step file translation flattens multi part assemblies into a single file, but when opened show the assembly structure. I was expecting something like this.

When you see the error message, are you working in your own hub? For instance, can you replicate, on your own team hub, in a project you have admin/edit rights for, what is described as uploading a step file, editing it, and being unable to save?

I suspect it's a bug in Fusion 360.
Had this error multiple times now. I used to think it was related to inventor and vault, but that's not the case.
Importing and working on it straight away can lead to not being able to save.
Restart Fusion and everything is as it should... but unfortunately also the loss of all changes made.

Can you Attach a file that exhibits this issue.

I have never observed this behavior.

Unfortunately not. But it's not just step files where the problem can occur.
One of my customer had the same problem with Inventor and Vault. Inventor files to be uploaded into Fusion and used for machining were not allowed to be saved because, "the design contains external reference(s) from other team hubs"
Unfortunately, the error appears far too randomly to be able to make more precise statements, but it only occurred to me with imported files.
