Updating folded sheet metal body with changes made in flat pattern

I made a couple of changes while in flat pattern (a relief cut and split a body) and, before I made many more changes, wanted to make sure that the changes were appearing in the folded model. In fact, they did not. What do I need to do to get the model to update?
Well, I unfolded and created the circle with which to make the relief cut. The problem now is that, in the cut operation, I cannot get it to select the bend. It can select both bends but omits the bend.
Gunther, it now seems that splitting the body is now preventing me from refolding the model. I'm wondering if I missed some step in the solution that you provided.
