Update of Fusion for Personal Use Failing

Automatic updates within the app have not been completing successfully for some time.

I have tried today to reinstall Fusion (for Mac - Sequoia 15.4) using a fresh copy of the installer dowloaded from the Autodesk website but this keeps failing with the error message:

'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xc9 in position 87

1: invalid continuation byte.

See attached log file for full details.

Would appreciate some guidance on how to overcome this issue and update the application ahead of September 2025 deadline for old version functionality.

Details of my current install are:

Fusion 2.0.18719 arm64 [Native]
Active Plan: Personal
macOS 15.4 (24E248) on Mac16,11

Thanks for you help.

@ian.jaffray Can you plea try this?

1. Logout and Close Fusion
2. Go to Launchpad - Uninstall Fusion
3. Go to

  • Macintosh HD>Users>(username)>Library>Application Support>Autodesk>Autodesk Fusion 360>

4. Delete Folder Autodesk Fusion 360

5. Delete the Fusion launch icon (from desktop or where you have it)

6. Restart the Mac

8. Download the installer again

9. Now install Fusion

This should set you up right with the current version which should be 2601.1.29

Do I also need to delete the folder "A360" from the path you specified? What about the Fusion files in the "User/Applications/" folder - Autodesk Fusion, Autodesk Fusion Service Utility and Remove Autodesk Fusion? Note: I ran the uninstaller but these files are still in place!

@ian.jaffray Canyon give me a snapshot of all the folders you see left behind?

2 screen shots - one of the Fusion files under User/Applications, the second within Users/Library/Application Support/Autodesk/

Let me know if you need anything else..

@ian.jaffray Looks like you have other Autodesk products that contribute to the folder structure but from Fusion stand point it seems like to have all the latest folders per the modified date. I have asked the engineering team if they can see more details in the logs. Will keep you updated here.

Appreciate the help - hope you can resolve. I only use Fusion currently - have had AutoCAD/AutoCAD Lite in the past but not longer use those applications.

@ian.jaffray While our engineering team checks tis out a quick test to get you moving forward (maybe).

1. Quickly create a new user account on the Mac - it is relatively easy to do to
2. install Fusion on that user profile

Does it install without any issues ?

Tried this on my Admin account and it worked just fine - I guess there is an issue with the user account migrated from my old Mac. Can you advise on how to clear Fusion fully from the user account I have an issue with?

I've logged back into the the user account I was having issues with and now Fusion seems to be OK - I tried the "check for updates" and it reported back that everything was up to date (although version number is still as before:

Fusion 2.0.18719 arm64 [Native]
Active Plan: Personal
macOS 15.4 (24E248) on Mac16,11

I'll check the version number of the new install in the Admin account and report back.

The new install is a more up to date version - see attached screen shot. The challenge now is to remove the old version from the user profile that is not working and replace with a fresh install - any advice on how best to do this would be gratefully received!

@ian.jaffray On the user profile that Fusion is not working can you try the below?

1. Close Fusion
2. Go to launch pad
3. Run the Fusion service utility
4. Pick the Repair Fusion

Does this help?

No, that does not work - I get another error message after the pop-up starts running the pre-checks - see screen shot attached.

I think I might have solved it following the steps outlined in this article on how to manually remove Fusion from Mac:

https://www.autodesk.com/support/technical/article/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/How-to-do-a-manual...

Thanks for  your help, much appreciated. with trying the other ways!
