Undocking from external display causes loss of modal dialogs

On my windows 10 Lenovo X1, I often connect to a 5K display and disconnect to manufacture on my CNC or move to a different room.

When I am on my laptop display after having started or used Fusion 360 on my larger display, the modal dialogs in design and manufacture mode are often off screen (they cannot be found).

I would do a video, but all you would see when I extrude or edit sketch or edit a toolpath, etc. is that the modal dialog is not on the screen

My current fix is to save everything, exit Fusion 360, start F360, and re-open my designs.

Is there a way to fix this?  Is there a way to reclaim the modals when they are lost (presumably off to the right of the current more narrow screen)?

Or maybe a way to force the modal dialog to always be in the tree view where Browser is?

Thanks,

Mark

Hello @tarheel_cnc
At first, you can look at this article: Parameter or other dialog is missing in Fusion 360

If this doesn't help you let me know and I will try to find some other solution for your issue.

The proposed solution does not work for most f360 dialogs.  I have used the proposed technique with windows from other programs and actually tried it several times on the subject dialogs before posting.  Thank you for offering it as a suggestion to try.

Change parameters is an actual first class windows 10 window with a title bar "Parameters" across the top, so it is a different dialog than the ones I am describing (alt-spacebar brings up restore/move/size/minimize/maximize) context menu.

Edit sketch and other dialogs lack the windows 10 window context options / move option.  If I try the suggested key sequence when editing a sketch where the sketch dialog is lost, for example, the f360 move object dialog appears in response to pressing the M key.

Only Fusion 360 knows about this dialog, so I think that fusion 360 needs to register for some OS monitor/display change notifications and act accordingly (or it needs to poll every once in a while for monitor/display dimension changes / perhaps when rendering a modal dialog)

Hello @tarheel_cnc
I will look around for some solution for you, I hope that I find something.

For now, you can look at this forum topic about a similar issue:

Browser window and toolbar automatically move to the middle of the screen

What's more, you can describe your issue here as an improvement request:

New Ideas for Fusion’s Dialog

If I find something that can help you I will let you know if not we need to post this to Fusion 360 Feedback Hub and wait for an update.

Reset to default layout appears to solve the problem and I pretty much use the default layout, so I will go with that for now.  It would be nice if this was fixed in the future for other users.

File -> View -> Reset to Default Layout (Ctrl-Alt-R on windows)
