Unable to use Free Version; says my sub is expired and files are read-only

Further, any time I use the Autodesk Assistant chat to try and ask about the problem, chat malfunctions after providing my account information.  It just stops and doesn't proceed.

The whole support experience with Autodesk is very poor.  I'm on the verge of uninstalling and dealing with alternative software.
