Unable to select faces by dragging mouse

Hi. So according to this article:

https://help.autodesk.com/view/fusion360/ENU/?guid=SLD-SELECTION

Screenshot 2025-03-17 at 2.57.12 PM.png

If I click and drag from left to right then I'll be able to select objects that are entirely enclosed by the selection boundary.

Here you can see me doing exactly that but no faces get selected:

My selection filters:

Why aren't all the faces entirely within the selection window getting selected?

@Phil.E any ideas?

Using an M1 mini, I'm not able to replicate this effect on similar geometry. I can't imagine this is model specific, but if you create a block with some similar shapes on top, from scratch, does it do the same thing?

Also, in the second video, I don't see any faces selected.

One thing you could try is using Face priority (Selection Priority menu). It's helpful to put these tools on the toolbar for ease of access, and awareness when they are "on".

But you shouldn't have to do that because without any special filters I can select similar faces. So, it's a puzzle unless you can uncover a clue about what condition is most likely causing it. I'm happy to test whatever you suggest.

That is correct it is not model specific. Posted about this about 4 or 5 years ago while on an Intel Mac.

I'm not sure if this behavior only happens when the camera looking orthographically [My Camera setting is always set to: Perspective with Ortho faces] [I believe I've noticed this a bunch of times over the years while the camera was in perspective mode but not 100% sure].

Here's 2 more examples:

This forum really needs to handle quoting people better.

Also, in the second video, I don't see any faces selected.

That is correct.

I tried to repeat the issue using the same m1 and basic logitech 3 button mouse. Using perspective with ortho camera, and a similar shape as your videos show. Unfortunately it's working for me as expected.

Obviously it falls down for you often, so there must be a factor I'm not encountering. Is there any pattern you recognize where it's different? Such as after restarting the computer, or after restarting Fusion? Using different hardware, etc. The key to debugging something like this lies in replicating it while on a software debugger tool that can show the exact line of code where the issue happens. I just need the conditions to make it start happening each time, like your videos show.

If you think it's at all data related let me know.

I wouldn't be able to say.

The only things that get hooked up to this laptop are:

Power cable

USB flash drive

MX Master 3S

Windows server over wifi

But this also happens at home when I'm connected to none of those except the power cable.

Noticed this on at least one other Intel Macbook.

Looks like this happens way more often [or only] when the camera is looking orthographically.

I'm thinking about buying a new Mac in the fall, you guys want this one for whatever Apple would pay me for a trade in just let me know.

Thanks for the details and offer.

Just to be clear about your comment, are you saying you used a different mouse (non-MX Master 3S) and got the same result?

No sorry, I do not use a mouse at home, just my built in trackpad.
