Unable to open exported obj from Fusion in Rhino

I need to export an OBJ file from a project I made on Fusion 360 and open it in Rhino.

Fusion exports it but then when I open it in Rhino an error message shows up and I can't see the file.

The message says:

"Unable to find or open -filecode-.mtl. Materials will be ignored."

I exported it with no materials, so I don't understand what the problem is. I tried on 3 different computers and I exported another project in OBJ in the same way and I can open it in Rhino, so the problem is in the file.

I've tried to export it with imported objects and without, so just the structure with walls and floor, and still it doesn't open it.

Please, help me! Is for a final exam, I really need it to be opened.

You could try to open it in Blender and see if everything its OK.  If it is OK in Blender, then just re-export it as a .obj. The export dialogue has some options, including NOT to export he material definitions.

If you can attach the file to the next post I can check it out.

Just to be clear, though, a .obj exported from Fusion 360 is a triangulated mesh file. IS that really what you need in Rhino?

Rhino is a mostly a NURBS surface modeling software, so a STEP export might be more appropriate.

Hi,

do you even get an .mtl file or only the .obj? If you do not have a .mtl you can try to open the obj file with a text editor and search for mtl. Just remove the line: mtllib filename.mtl and try to open it in Rhino.

Exporting in STEP worked great! Thank you so much!

Thank you too! I would have tried it as second, it was easier trying to export in Step first. Thanks anyway!
