Unable to open design

I've been having intermittent loss of files as well.  I had one assembly that was fine last night and today I can't open - I just get a message saying "we cannot perform this operation" and the error box in the lower right shows the little red circle with the white x in it with no text at all.  I'm working on the same machine and I can open other files.  About a week ago it lost one of my part files with a similar message and basically destroyed all of the joints in the assemblies it was a part of (the part that was lost wasn't even part of any of those other joints).  Any ideas or should I just shift everything over to Inventor (which has never done this to me)?

Can you please grab your diagnostic log files from this machine and post them here? These are found using a tool in Help > Support and Diagnostics > Diagnostic Log files. They should show what happened when you got the error. Glad to look into it.

Here you go.  I didn't actually do anything other than save, close, and come back the next day.  The same thing happened the last time this occurred.

Thanks for the logs.

Just to ensure due diligence. Have you tried restarting your computer, and then try to open the design again?

If Fusion is running for some period of time, let's say at least an hour, do you still get the error message while trying to open the design that didn't open earlier?

I have restarted several times with no change.  Fusion has been open most of the time (well over the hour you mentioned below - probably around 6 hours in total) and I still get the same message.  The last time this happened I actually completely uninstalled and reinstalled Fusion but that didn't help either - even after a week of using Fusion for the better part of the day it didn't return (I ended up having to delete the design completely and recreate from scratch).

Quick update - after shutting the machine down last night I still cannot open the design.  I still get the same error message.

Can you try opening a previously saved version? Here is how you can find the promote/open option for previous versions:

All previous versions are available to openAll previous versions are available to open

I can roll the design back a version and get it to open.  Besides losing about 2 hours of work on it I get the same "We cannot perform this operation" message when I try to update the out of date components in the design.  I'm also getting that error message when trying to open one of the other components directly.

On that other component that's an issue, I have to go back 4 versions to get that to open (anything newer gives me the "we cannot perform this operation" message). It looks a bit different if I go back that far and it popped up an error message about "open missing references".

Now that was really odd - a colleague suggested to open the file directly from Fusion Teams rather than from the desktop version - and it opens with no issue.  Any idea what's going on there?

I'm not entirely sure.

To be clear: the design opens in Fusion 360 and you can update and save it.

If that's true, can you try closing the design and Fusion, then reopening everything to ensure it all works properly now?

Not sure what happened there but the design does work properly now.  Thanks for the support.

HI,

I have the same problem. I saved it yesterday and today I cannot open it.  I also got the message that there are references missing. But when I open it in the web I cannot see what is missing.  I can open the parts which are in the assembly that does not work. What can I do?

Best Regards,

Wolfgang

Did you try opening it via the web page? @Anonymous  used the "Open in Fusion" button on the web page.

Are any of the referenced parts in the trash can?
