Unable to make a sliding as built slide joint

I have down loaded to STL files for a project I will be printing and building. The designer of the cnc machine has only released the STL for the printed parts and no modal of the complete machine to work with. I am trying to make a model of the machine so I can use it to build other parts and a work table I want to add to it.

The problem I'm having is I have imported the STL models into my model and designed the other parts I need. I'm at the stage where I want to had slider joints on the components so I can simulate the moving parts but when I select the STL component it doesn't allow me to build the slider joint.

what do I need to do to make a slider joint work?

Joints work only for BRep and not mesh bodies. Your best bet is to take STL as visual reference and remodel it (or the important part of it) with native solid tools. You can also try to convert the mesh into BRep but: 1. In personal license only faceted conversion is possible which is not clean and won't give you proper joint snap 2. Even if you had subscription and access to prismatic conversion most of the times it won't work (at least not without spending a considerable amount of time painstakingly defining face groups). That being said, if possible please do share the STL, forum users might be able to convert it.

But again, I'd say try to remodel it. Your picture is not clear but fro from your description I am guessing you can identify the part(s) of STL that is important for your joint and only remodel that part if you hesitate to model the whole thing.

You have a top level bodies folder.  Without the file, we guess,

If your Stl bodies are not in their own component, will be a reason it does not work, for you.

Joints don’t care what the body is, if you select a Component sketch point.  Edit the component and add the snap / position point in a sketch.

Might help....
