Unable to intercept point on a split body

Hi, Newbi here..

I am unable to create intercept points on a pulled split cylinder to create constraints. I can successfully create intercept points a full cylinder whose surface is not interrupted.  I will use a text field to illustrate (please see screen shot below). I was able to fully constrain my text box on a tangent plane an emboss the text on a smooth cylinder and is partially visible on the left side below. I did this before adding the hole and slot.

But after adding the slot, I am unable to select the body using web Fusion 360 while the app version allows me to select the body but does not create the intercepts by which I use to constrain the text field "sketch check".

The Work around is simple, add all your embossing prior to marring the surface but not always practical.

My process:

  1. Create a cylinder and pull its height. Save sketch.
  2. Create a tangent plane where I want to put the text field
  3. Select tangent plane to create next sketch
  4. Create text box and enter text parameters
  5. Use intercept and select outer cylinder surface (unbroken by slot)
  6. Constrain text box to intercept points and horizontal constraints.
  7. Emboss.
  8. Happy camper 😀
  9. Put hole in cylinder shell. then add slot. slot and hole are fully constrained
  10. The above process then fails to project intercept points onto tangent plane.

Is this a known issue or do I need a different process?

thanks

Jaz

Good day @jamesnadir,

Thank you for sharing the workaround.

You can always roll back your timeline to before the slot, add the emboss, then move the timeline to the latest.

Hi @jamesnadir

This could be a known issue, but it is also possible that there is a problem with your specific design or the way you are trying to constrain the text field.

One possible solution would be to try using a different process or workflow to create the constraints on the split cylinder. For example, you could try using a different type of sketch constraint, such as a tangent constraint, or you could try using a different type of sketch tool, such as a line or arc, to create the intercept points.

Another option would be to try using a different version of Autodesk Fusion 360 or to check if there is an update available that might fix the issue.

It's also possible that the issue is related to the browser version and the app version of Fusion 360 having some different functionality. So, if possible, you should try to use the app version for this specific task.

Yes, that would work. The split and the key lock served as a convenient means to locate the text. If you look at the left corner of the cylinder there is already some embossed text there from doing just that. There are other work arounds such as adding points, etc. If my process should have worked then I thought it might be meaningful to report it to the developers so they can decide if it is worth fixing.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look at my post and for your suggested workaround. I really wasn't expecting such a helpful, non-"flame the newbie" response. This is a very welcomed interaction. Thank you.

Hi Sutherland

Yes, you are correct. I did just that, I used a different workflow on the far-left side of the cylinder where some embossed text is partially visible.  There are other work arounds such as adding points, etc. If my process should have worked then I thought it might be meaningful to report it to the developers so they can decide if it is worth fixing.
